The absurdity of using image

I am calling from BB with a marginal hand against a flop raiser. Flop comes. If I have checkraised him much lately I don't do it if I did not hit anything, if I have checkraised him a normal amount of times lately I checkraise if I hit and with most draws, if I have checkraised him very little lately I do it with any two.

The absurdity is that if my opponent would notice, he would know I would be less likely to have a good hand when I checkraise if it is a long time since last time.

Any such game theoretical perspectives that can be useful when playing?

I don't see the absurdity. If you are c/r'ing a lot, I would peg you as a lag and not give your raises too much respect. I would look to trap you with a good hand.

If you c/r little, I would put your hand range at a higher level. You'd be able to do a few bluffs...

That is why we play against fish they don't notice those things.

I agree with kjander, because I don't think I notice those things as much as I should, and I'm a fish.

The problem is that they know that you know this, thus they'll expect you to do the opposite.

You can go on forever with a lot of things like this in poker.

Everytime you try to adjust your play against a certain player you are playing an exploitable strategy that could potentially turn you i loser if your opponent is smarter than you realize.

That is why you should often use a strictly game theoretic approach when facing a player who you fear.

Less likely than what? If you are making a play based on what you believe is your image then your opponent, hopefully a smart opponent, in most cases cannot or will not take the chance that you do not have the hand you are representing. Using image is a must in tournament play and works very well in the right situations. P.S. Check-raising bluffs are not recommended. They can be quite costly. Try using your image in more direct ways and you may realize the value of your image.
