Newb question

Hey, just made my first bet on pinnacle. What i was wondering was why I have to enter the amount i want to win instead of the amount I want to bet? Am I missing something. I wanted to put $5 on a line that was -135, but it said that I was risking $6.75 to win $5. So I had to put $3.70 in the wager section in order to risk $5. Can you guys explain why this is so?

If you want to avoid this, click where it says "risk" next to your bet amount. Then you can put in the amount you want to risk, instead of the amount you want to win.

The default is "to win" when you are laying odds (-110, -130, etc.) and "to risk" when you are getting odds (+110, +130, etc.). Why is it done this way? To maximize the expectation of the sportsbook, like most things in sports betting. Basically the default for each setting entices you to bet a higher amount than the non-default option.

Tech speaks the truth.

Good luck with this and all future wagers.

- Um, any chance you could PM me before your next bet - especially if you decide to double up to, say, ten bucks per game.

I like to track how big money moves the line.
