A poker story

The European stud poker championship in Austria is every year one of the best tournaments in Europe. It's side games are huge and many players travel to Austria only to sit at the cash games. Especially the omaha high pot limit games are so big that the expression "the sky's the limit" has never been more accurate.

A couple of years ago, there was this young german guy with his girlfriend. In fact it was the girlfriend that played poker; he knew barely the rules.

One evening, while the girlfriend was playing in the tourney, he got bored and was talked into sitting at one of the omaha tables. The buy-in was $20K but as everybody was sitting with way over 100k, he decided to sit down with 100K (yes, he was rich).

The very first hand, in the CO, he is dealt 8876 and finds himself in a 4-way pot raised once by the BB.
The flop comes T88, BB bets the pot, second man folds, third man raises the pot and our german guy and the BB both call.
The turn shows an Ace and now the BB and the other man start a raise war while the german guy just calls until he has no more chips left and watches quietly as a side pot half the size of the main pot is builded.
Of course the BB has AA and the other guy TT and the german guy can now buy a new house, a couple of porsches and a few diamonds for his girlfriend.

He sits over the next hand as he is very busy stacking the mountain of chips in front of him and suddenly the girlfriend arrives. She is done with the tourney and you can clearly see her worried face as she finds out that his boyfriend is sitting at a poker table. She quickly forces him to cash out and get up.

The poor guy has just won over 300K and he is being yelled at on his way out of the casino....

Who says poker is not fun?

I'm confused. What was the winning hand? Aces full? You never said what the river was. Did the german guy win the pot?

If you are dealt a pair of 8's and the flop comes with 2 8's that means you beat aces full.

It's probably safer than buying a boat and taking a "fishing trip" to San Francisco Bay.

"One question...did Lardass have to pay to get into the contest, or did they let him in?"
