Re: YOUR poker Story (So far)

I discovered poker on old WSOP broadcasts and in college. I started playing online/serious poker in August 2003, before my senior year. I didn't rally have a clue, but I read WLLH.

I deposited $100 in partypoker and started playing 2/4. I started off well, built that up to like $1800 in a few months and started playing 3/6, turned that into 4K in another couple months and started playing 5/10 full in Jan '04. I played that until Dec. '04 until I had like 14K. I took a shot at 15/30 and that went poorly. I dabbled in 10/20 and in late Jan '05 I got rakeback set up and started 5/10 6max with like 9K ish. I played that until May 1 2005 when I started 10/20 6max with like 20-22K. I had a really good May and am continuing to play 10/20 6max.

Re: YOUR poker Story (So far)

I saw rounders in January of '04. Got interested in the game, played lots of play money online and read HPFAP (stupid decision). Did lots of small stakes nl homegames ($5-$20) buyins until around August of '04, depositing $50 a few times online.

I did ok, barely a winning player but I had huge tilt issues and was afraid of playing very high (talking .05/.10 nl $5SNG type stuff)

In late August last year I had $25 in my party poker account. I played 15 or so 3 table $5 tourneys winning about a third and placing in the money in 80%. Suddenly I had a bankroll. I played $10 SNG's, then $20's, then $30's and some $50's. I threw in some $50 and $100nl in as well. I soon got bored with SNG's though, and was talking to a friend on AIM one night in December and decided to give limit a shot what with the huge Bad Beat Jackpot which was up.

I won $200 at one table of 2/4 in about an hour and I was hooked. By the begining of January I was playing 5/10 6max, and then it all went bad. I lost 100BB in 300 hands, and proceeded to hemmorage another $1k though the next couple days. Down to around $2500 from my peak bankroll of $5k or so I switched to 4tables of 2/4, then 6, then 8. Took another brutal shot at $5/10 6max in febuary and moved back down to 2/4.

Since then I've played lots of different games - I believe I'm a winner all the way to 15/30 but my variance has been bad so I've stuck with 8 tabling 3/6. I also play nl and since I've started playing seriously in September have made about $17k. I'm taking a year off school and will be travelling, playing to support myself. I would like to be a good multitabler at 15/30 by the end of the summer making $150+/hr which I *think* is realistic. I'm halfway there in terms of hourly rate, but I still have a long way to go.

Wow impressive stuff, you guys moved fast.

My Story,

Well i heard about a girl in "The Sun" winning 4K a week playing poker online. As i'm a student i want money, Thought poker sounded good...

So i googled poker and joined Uk-Poker, I went to their site and learnt the rules.

I then joined and played play money, found it easy and crazy...

Anyhow i thought Ok I can beat Play Money and these guys are ridiculous ill putin £10...

SO i did, I played 0.02/.04 stakes, Got up to $40 within week or two and decided to withdraw my original money.

I Cashed out £10 and droped to a very low $4.

$4 i played 0.02/.04 and got up to $20... Wanted to get out of this so moved to 0.05/.10.

Wow, Huge pots $1 - 3!!!

I Played them and brought ITH after discovering(Google) this forum and being told its a good beginners book.

I learnt fair bit, Pot odds/Implied seemed logical and i played tight.

Tight weak...eeek!

Posted few things here and became bit better, Won alot more.

Meanwhile read the forums, the stuff you guys post was crazy, EV ? Equality?

But i learnt it eventually, Still much to learn!

I recently purchased SSH great book, Much better than ITH. Regret buying ITH first, think i'd of been better buying SSH straight away.

Currently working my way up, Past the $100
tonight and continue to log my progress on my blogger( http://ragstorichs.blogspot.com/ )

Keep them coming guys!

Re: YOUR poker Story (So far)

i was gonna make a big post in august of 2005 to celebrate my 2 year anniversary, but eh, i'll do it now, and it'll be much shorter

WPT of 2003 - got hooked and started playing home games and such

August 2003 - June 2004 - lost 3000 and owed my best friend 1500, i sucked at limit poker, but also i played with old timers who used to play 20-40 at commerce and now just play 4-8 in this indian casino to relax

June 2004 - August 2004 - discovered party, and made 2000 from SNGs, paid back my friend, and had a 500 bankroll

August 2004 - December 2004 - played 3-6 and got my bankroll to about 6k, then had my first downswing since i stared winning and dropped to 5k. I found 2+2 in september i think.

January 2005 - 4 table 5-10 6max
March 2005 - 4 table 15-30
May 2005 - 4 table 30-60

that's where i am now

This thread will definetaly be a flamer in the next couple days...

Started Jan '04 after a semi-pro friend told me about the $ he was making. Deposited $50 into party and was told to quit if I busted (we didn't know anything about BR management). Got down to $15, but somehow luckily pulled it back up.

Jan to Dec 04- spent moving from 1 table 50 cent to 4 tabling 2/4.

Christmas 04- now pro friend teaches me NL. First session lose a $250+ stack in 1 hand and almost quit NL forever.

Jan 05 to now - move from 4 tables of NL25-old blind structure to 4 tabling NL100 6-max.

Re: YOUR poker Story (So far)

Started playing in late '03 as a junior in college. I put $100 into Party and sat down at a 100NL table (biggest at the time). In about an hour, I turned the $100 into about $400 and then I picked up KK. I got all-in preflop against someone holding AK and won a $800 pot to get me going. I then turned it into $1500 at the 100NL, but then [censored] started going downhill. I kept taking retarded beats for entire buy-ins and I lost it all over the next few weeks.

So then I put $1000 into Party and started playing the 3/6 games in early '04. I played those games for a long time and didn't really get anywhere. I went from being weak-tight at 1st to being a TAG and then a LAG. I played at least 100K hands of breakeven poker by the time I moved up to the 5/10 BBJ tables. After a few months of LAGGing it up there, I started winning a little bit and turned my $1000 deposit into about $5k (after withdrawing a couple thousand). At this point, it was summer time and I had played at least 50K hands of 5/10. I finally thought that I had it down at that point. I was playing solid poker for the 1st time since I started (well over 100k hands later). At some point, a guy on the 5/10 BBJ tables asked me if I was a 2+2er and I said no. He told me to go check it out since my style seemed to fit the mold. I knew about 2+2 and had TOP and HEPFAP, but never really got interested in the discussion going on here. So anyway I started keeping my eye here more and kept playing with this dude. The ironic part is that we both went bust about a month later. I lost my 500BB roll in 3 weeks as did this other guy (I don't know if he still comes here or not). At that point, I was fed up with losing decided to become a 2p2 member.

After I joined, I put in another couple grand and played about 50k more hands of breakeven weak-tight 5/10 poker. At that point, some people suggested that I hit up 2/4 to tweak my game. That is pretty much where I'm at now. Overall, I've made about $3000 playing this game in well over 300k total hands. I hate poker.
