So what do you do with large sums of money?

I have a lot of money sitting in my checking account. I don't plan on putting it into stocks. I don't need it for 2+ years. What should I do?

Pokerstars transfer it to "lambo_doors" and I'll send you a pic of me blowing you a kiss.

If you don't need it for two years and the stock market isn't your thing I'd suggest buying a CD from INGdirect. It's basically a fixed rate savings account that you can't touch for a fixed period of time, and ING's interest rates are excellent.

Good luck,
Matt

agreed - just spend a bit of time on bankrate.com looking at rates. and remember you are sacrificing liquidity for return.

low risk mutual funds, you should be able to get about twice the return of a CD/savings account with minimal risk.

Good point highlife. I'm actually looking at some mutual fund investments myself but I know the OP said he didn't want to invest it. However, you are right, with a low risk fund he/she can avoid the stress of "playing the market" and have a very solid rate of return on a long term investment.
