STTF-HUC Side Bets

My original thought for this was to have the site work like a sports book where people could open an account with me and then they could place bets up to the ammount of money they have in their accounts. However, after much thought I decided that handling that much money could just turn into a recipe for disaster for me.

So I've just decided to do things this way:

I'm not going to handle any of the money, or be responsible for any of the bets. You can just go to the site and propose a bet for however much you want on whatever you want. When you do so, a proposition for that will appear on the site for all to see. If someone sees it and wants the other side, they can bet against you and it will show up in in your bets. Once this happens, the two of you are responsilbe for working out the payments. In some cases, I might be willing escrow the money for you (for a small vig of course). In general however, there will be no vig, but if any of you make it big and want to send me a small token of your appreciation, that's cool with me.

I've only got a few things left to do before I let the side go live.

First, I'm trying to decide whether I should allow anybody to creat new categories and questions. Right now, I'm the only one who can do it. I'm worried that if I let anybody do it, the site will just become cluttered.

Second, I need someone to give me good O/U win totals for everybody in the tournament. I honestly don't know how good some of these people are, so someone with a bit better knowledge of the players might want to help me with this one.

Right now I have the site divided into four categories:

First Round Matchups
To Win The Tournament
Totals
Misc.

I need people to come up with more good bets and possibly good categories for me to put up. In particular, intesting prop bets would make a good addition to the site.

Some recommendations, along with a few off-the-top-off my head prices in some cases.

Total wins per player.
Gigabet show/no show (2-1 no)
Player A more wins than Player B
Gigabet/Irieguy/Daliman/Imsolucky/Mcpherzen vs field to win or total wins. (Even Money)
Will the championship match take 1 or 2 games? (-110 1 game/+110 2 games)
$500 or $200 player winning it all. (-250 $500 player)
Winner coming from loser's bracket. (-240)
Winner going undefeated:(-110)

These are all good ideas. I'm not actually doing any handicapping myself, except to try and come up with player win totals. The way it's set up is that there will be a bet that's posted, and you'll be able to post how much you want to wager and how much you want to win.

So say you want to take the first bet of Gigabet not showing up with 2:1 odds, and you're willing to risk $100. Then you go and click on the link for that bet, put 100 in the risk column and 200 in the win column. Then, if somebody else can come along and pick up the other end. There's nothing to stop you from betting $1 to win $1000 on Irie vs. Yugo in the first round, but if you post that, nobody will pick it up.

I may be interested in some of those...

How does that type of line work (the -110 or whatever) I don't sportsbet.

You won't have to worry about reading lines. There will just be two numbers, a risk and a win. I was going to use that notation originally, but this solution seemed to simplify a lot of problems.

FYI:

A line of -110 means that you have to bet $110 to win $100
A postive line of +110 would mean that you would profit $110 from a $100 bet.

I'm not so sure about your line on GigaBet. Have you seen the bids he's made on "SkipperBob/GigaBet" in the calcuttas?

Making Bids & paying for them are 2 different concepts
