A high river call

5/10 six max

I Raise 40 UTG with 1000 behind and A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

Everyone folds to BB who seems too loose and pretty aggro (hard to tell if he's good or not) and seems like he's been getting out of line. He calls.

85$ flop 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

He checks I bet 100$ he calls.

285$ Turn is an offsuit 5 and it goes check-check

River is an offsuit 3 and he bets 250, and I really want to call

Why? I kind of thought he had either a missed draw or some big hand that missed the turn check-raise like a 7 or a boat. I don't really think he has a hand like 88 or 66 and I doubt we're folding much else that we don't have beat with A-high

I think I'd rather call then raise, he is either bluffing or he isnt. Simple MTONLH stuff.

the problem as zeebo says is alot of the missed draws (straight draws) hit apair, 68 did get there, and you have high diamonds making flushdraw for villain unlikely.i make more ace high call downs then I should, but I fold here.

This guy is very loose, so me having the A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] hardly affects his drawing range (that is, he is likely to have a lot of hands like 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img])

The point that some draws made a pair and that some draws got there is very valid though. I thought that he could have 86 but he could also have J10 or some crap.

fwiw that is his most likely bluffing hand, and if you called -> won, you see that, but not much else when you callyou beat... I understand what you say when "wouldnt peoplecheck with a pair on the river", and the sad truth is so many dont. Alot of people dont think about what their opponents have, (yes, at 5-10) alot dont care, alot just base their decision on "Oh man he checked I need to bet since he's weak!".

I see alot of people betting with smallpairs in this spot. Interestingly though, I see it because I callwith ace high, somaybe they're onalevel beyond me, and know I will callwithace high...
