Stars 500k, DblGutShot makes a call

I was watching the Stars 500k when it was down to 2 tables when this hand came up. On PocketFives, I read that this guy is practically legendary on Stars.

I checked the HH, and I watched for 19 hands (only sample I have). DblGutShot only raised once in that time, and uks86 had not been in a single pot in that span. Is that a big gamble or is that an easy call, getting 2 to 1?

19 hands is not a lot.

Pretty standard call with that price I'd say.

context is everything - when there were still 2 tables left, i had seen others come over the top of dbl's raises and force him to fold. he may have simply decided that it was time to take a stand, especially since the initial raise left him short-stacked.

Re: Stars 500k, DblGutShot makes a call

When you're getting 2:1 odds, you need an excuse to fold, not an excuse to call. Except in extreme bubble situations, you should essentially never fold a PP HU getting 2:1 because there's no reasonable range you can put your opponent on that justifies this:

equity (%) win (%) tie (%)
Hand 1: 37.4300 % 37.14% 00.29% { 2c2d }
Hand 2: 62.5700 % 62.28% 00.29% { KK+, AKs, AKo }

Context is completely unnecessary here. This is an instacall.

and in a situation like this it might be better to pass up near breakeven plays.

Yeah, you're obviously right, Exit. My post was way too strongly worded. In this spot, I think JJ+, AK is WAY too tight, but you know that anyway.

Anyway, folding PPs HU getting 2:1 on an all in is sometimes okay but usually isn't. How's that?
