http://www.macworld.com/news/2005/09/14/204t/index.php - street prices should be lower than what Dell currently offers.

I saw this monitor in September and compared it to the Dell. It appears comparable, maybe a little better. The sale prices ranged between $530 to $600 + shipping. Maybe the Dell prices will adjust a little lower, maybe not. The recent, periodic coupon deals from Dell make for a better price, so far.

When I moved to my dorm a couple months ago, I went shopping for a 20.1 inch monitor at the stores (I didn't feel like having a dell shipped here). Anyways, the only one I found was some Samsung Synchmaster (don't know which one). The monitor is great..anyways, it cost $750, which isn't too horrible..but it didn't even come with a DVI cable which cost me another $60. The guy at the store said Samsung were the only monitor company to not include the DVI cable. So, if thats true with this monitor, expect to pay another $50 or so for the cable.

NewEgg has it

You can get it for $530 now. It would cost me $456 or so to get a 2001FP with the coupon deal going on because I would have to pay tax on the Dell.

The big differences in the monitors are as follow with the format being Dell/Samsung.

Viewing Angle: 88° / 178°
Brightness: 250 cd/m2 / 300 cd/m2
Contrast: 400:1 / 700:1
Response Time: 16ms / 16ms
I also believe they have all the same inputs.

So the Samsung is definitely better, but I don't know if it is $80 better (That won't stop me from buying it). Though, if someone was going to buy a monitor when there wasn't a Dell sale the Samsung wins hands down.

Not to be a nit, well, maybe a little bit, but the viewing angle of the 2001FP is +/- 88°, which is 176°.

And while we're nitting, most people don't consider brightness over 250, or contrast over 400 to be that important. So the monitors are really quite comparable.

I would go for whichever had the better reliability, unless an obvious preference was found for one's hue over another.
