Dell Inspiron 9300 and Microsoft verification/illegal software?
 

I got a 9300 a month or so ago. I just got a message for a new download for windows, go to download and they want me to verify my Windows software to make future downloads/updates quicker.

Enter my software number from the bottom of my laptop and it comes up as an invalid number for my software!?!

wtf?

So basically I got illegal software on a new laptop.

verification numbers are the biggest pain in the butt; especially when you're dealing with microsoft. For only $35, they'll answer an e-mail that may or may not solve your problem.

please note that verifying with microsoft is OPTIONAL.

I went thru the same thing yesterday.
No problems tho when I vefified.

I got the same message on my new Dell 9300 yesterday - I bypassed the verification step and just downloaded the software update.
