MicroLimit Personal Progress...All Posters Post

I was posting to another thread about someone making a move/start in limits and found that I wanted to show people my progress and look at how my other poster/friends are doing. I saw a thread like this awhile back but it got very large and harder to read.

I spent an extra long time to build not only my bankroll at .5/1 but also my skills cheaply.

Here my breakdown.

Some of the BB/100 at 1/2 and 2/4 are skewed since I took some early stabs and thus hurt my rate.

$0.50/$1.00 - 35,447 Hands, 4.90 BB/100
$1.00/$2.00 - 10,142 Hands, 3.33 BB/100
$2.00/$4.00 - 1,323 Hands, 1.44 BB/100

I chart my progress every 31 playing days. Here is my breakdown that shows improvement.

First 31 Days
$0.50/$1.00 - 18,092 Hands, +3.94 BB/100
$1.00/$2.00 - 2,605 Hands, -1.31 BB/100
$2.00/$4.00 - 1,206 Hands, -0.09 BB/100

Second 31 Days
$0.50/$1.00 - 15,576 Hands, +5.68 BB/100
$1.00/$2.00 - 2,433 Hands, +3.05 BB/100

Third 31 Days - Currently at day 15
$0.50/$1.00 - 1,779 Hands, +7.95 BB/100
$1.00/$2.00 - 5,104 Hands, +5.83 BB/100
$2.00/$4.00 - 117 Hands, +17.20 BB/100

I like to not only keep the true running rates and stats for each level but also break it down to 31 playing days so I can see if I'm improving and how it's affecting my win rate.

I'm still early in my online poker adventure. I only began tracking my hands via PT for a little less then a month, while I began playing several weeks prior to that. After having my BB/100 rise to a peak of 6.8, I suffered a downswing and it dropped to a low of 2.9. Expected variance since I just started playing. But to date here are my tracked numbers.

6/19 - 7/16/04

$.50/1 Party Poker - 6,697 Hands, 4.64 BB/100

I could have moved up to 1/2 if I hadn't touched my bankroll to make poker related purchases(or bonus whored but PP has only offered me the initial deposit bonus), but I don't think it would be a wise move until I've collected more experience. I'm thinking at least 20,000 hands would be reasonable. On one hand I'm eager to move up in limits, then on the other I'm hesitant as I would expect the players to be tougher there. All I know is this forum is an indispensible tool in improving my play. Thank you micro-limit masters!

I don't have the stats with me coz I don't have the money to register PT, but at PS in the last 4 days I am down 100 BB. I have either been outdrawn or put people on totally wrong cards at times.

So far I've played a total of 11053 hands at 5.04bb/100, distributed at the following levels
0.02/0.04 - 197hands 8.11bb/100 (mainly PS headsup tables for fun)
0.05/0.10 - 3368hands 10.38bb/100 played there before I got WLLH and HPFAP (I was at -10bb/100 for my first 1000hands)
0.25/0.050 - 2110hands 5.48bb/100 got my roll up to around 500 here after some casino whoring so decided to take advantage of Empire 100% upto 500, but they only gave me %20 bonus
0.50/1 - 3241hands 8.43bb/100 Great runs on Empire and Paradise whilst clearing bonuses
1/2 - 2113hands -4.45bb/100 hands, W$SD 39.90 plenty of bad beats at 1/2 but i'm confident I can beat the level as the players are not much better and my reading skills at that level are better. I've also played a bit of SH at 1/2 level clearing an Absolute bonus, I've enjoyed it and think I will definitely try some more when I start to clear a reload bonus i've got pending at Empire.

All in all i'm pretty happy with how my games coming along, and thanks to bonus's and whoring 1 casino i've grown my roll from $100 - $1000 in just over a month, so I feel happy playing 1/2.

Re: MicroLimit Personal Progress...All Posters Post

I started playing around January this year. I go in spurts mostly though. I'll play for about a week straight, then wont play for two weeks, then I'll play a couple days, take a week off, then play for two weeks. I started with a whopping $50 (which my wife made me take out as soon as I hit $150).

I slowly worked that starting $50 into the $300 bankroll I "needed" to play at the .5/1. level (took about two months). Over the next month I battled to break $400. Kept getting to like $402 or something, then I'd lose $20, get it back, lose $30, get it back, lose $10. It was fun Then I went on a crazy rush over a weekend and went from about $410 to just over $500. My intent had always been to play at least 10k hands at .5/1. and to get the full $600 before I moved up to 1/2. However (in retrospect, stupidly) I decided that I was ready.

It took me approx. 8 hours of playing to get back down to $250. Played another couple hours the next day, down to $180 So, I took off about a week, moved back down to .5/1. and am settled back in to get all the way to the $600 goal this time (don't think I'll have the 10k hands issue ) Anyway, that's my story, and man do I LOVE this game.

Here's my stats:

.5/1. - 8800 hands, 6.07 BB/100
1/2 - 600 hands, -14.60 BB/100

I started online play on May 31st with $300. I'm up to about $600 now with my rake kickback. Here are my results so far:

0.5/1: 2671 hands, won $92.64 for 3.47 BB/100
$11 limit SNG: 51 tournaments, ITM 41.18% (5,10,6 1st, 2nd, 3rd), Avg finish 4.61 for a net of $109

These are the games I focus on right now - I've taken a couple shots at no-limit SNGs and at one $22 SNG, but limit is my game. I'll hone my NL tourney skills once I've got my limit game ironed out.

I'm not able to get the number of hands in that you guys are getting, although if you count my tournament hands with my ring hands, I'm up to about 6k hands in about a month and a half.

I can only guess at my B&M results, as I haven't kept accurate records, but I know I'm ahead a couple hundred playing 1/2, 2/4, 3/6, and 5/5 probably a few thousand hands total.

I don't have the stats here at work. I started playing with $50 at party and hit a lucky run in the beginning while studying. I cashed the $50 out when I reached $350 and started adding 1/2 to my usual .5/1.

In the middle of April I reached $2500 by playing micro online and 2/4 and 3/6 at the Borgata.

In April I moved up to 2/4 (for the third time) online at to 6/12 at the Borgata. Last night I added up all my monies: $4610 (including B&M and bonuses). I was really happy.

I'm not ready to move up to 3/6 online though. I have lots of leaks. I wish I wasn't so shy and posted more often.

Re: MicroLimit Personal Progress...All Posters Post

I dropped $ 130.50 last night in 476 hands mostly on 1/2 so I'm a little grumpy.

Its the familiar story--some suckouts (my only set all night lost a huge pot to a better rivered set), a lot of missed draws, and a real shortage of good cards (AA only once and it was cracked, no Kings, no Jacks, Queens once, A-K fewer times than you would expect and only won once--a small pot with an Ace high with the slick, Had A-Q only once).

The interesting thing is that I never got really frustrated, I felt like my play was fine and that it would turn around for me. And even though it didn't today I feel mildly disapointed instead of in a black cloud. And that's after my biggest loss ever. So I count that as growth as a player (heh heh heh, I've gotta find a silver linning somewhere).

I'm at -19 BB per hundred at 1/2. Beat that!

--Zetack

Edit: oh, whoops I wasn't looking at my total stats...I'm actually only at -7.55 BB per hundred at 1/2 over about a thousand hands.

Well it looks to me like your up abo0ut 555 dollars. And even with the wholloping you've taken at 1/2 that's close to 2 bucks per hundred hands. It may not be a brilliant return, but its far far far from sucking.

I've been playing for 2 months. I started by playing sng's, to cut losses and learn the basics. I took advantage of a bonus offer and took the plunge into ring games. After hitting an all time low balence of $22, I bought HEFAP. I'm doing MUCH better. Kind of freaked out today though. After playing for 3 hours I was up 150 BB in one session. 15 bucks at nickel/dime. So I'm taking a break. I guess the book is paying for itself. I'm sure a downturn is arond the corner....

I played for several months last year at .50/1 on party. I started with $50, won my way up to $700, lost my way down to $400, then cashed out. This march I bought back in with $600 intending to get back into shape at .50/1 and move up when I started playing well. Results:

March 1200 hands at $0.50/1.00 - 7.45 BB/100

April 670 hands at $0.50/1.00 - 8.98 BB/100
100 hands at $1.00/2.00 - negative 8.16 BB/100
142 hands at 6 max $1.00/2.00 - negative 17.34 BB/100 (I really suck shorthanded)

May 170 hands at $0.50/1.00 - negative 4.46 BB/100

June 1600 hands at $0.50/1.00 - 8.73 BB/100
1600 hands at $1.00/2.00 - 8.77 BB/100 (Mostly Party 1/2 badbeat jackpot)

July 305 hands at $0.50/1.00 - 17.01 BB/100
329 hands at $1.00/2.00 (6 max) - 1.69 BB/100
1561 hands at $1.00/2.00 - 5.98 BB/100
2100 hands at $2.00/4.00 - 2.65 BB/100

You know, looking over this I've only played about 4000 hands at $0.50/1.00. I think I need to spend the rest of my first 10000 hands there and at 1/2 and not move up too quick.

From my brief move to 2/4 it seems we have looser callers preflop and more aggression post flop compared to 1/2. Perhaps skipping 1/2 wouldn't have been a bit deal. It did teach you how to play in that type of game but it's weird so I wonder how much good it did other than build bank.

I think building up a good data sample size is a pretty worthwhile thing all by itself. It can help set you straight on what to expect from the game and yourself. Even 5,000 hands or more can be misleading and very streaky.

You can always refer back to that data if you doubt yourself and your abilities when you move up, to help keep from going on tilt or getting too bummed out and ineffective if you hit a bad streak or earn slowly at your new level, and it reminds you that going back is always an option.

Plus, you might find yourself getting data and reads on other players at lower levels who you see again at the higher ones. It's kind of interesting to see if they've changed their game or not.

PStars .25/.50: 1634 hands / 13.67 BB/100
PartyP .50/1.00: 438 hands / 12.43 BB/100

i really should play more often.. BTW, is there a way to combine my btspider(PS) and btspider(PTY) usernames in pokertracker? you can only select one player id under preferences.

EDIT: (saving clutter) Thanks. That did it. I must be blind to have missed that.

Re: MicroLimit Personal Progress...All Posters Post

I start off at PP with the $50 - I think they kicked me a weak $10 sign up bonus (they dont give enough freebies). I struggled at the .5/1 and got the bankroll around $175. I poked my head in for a couple of 1/2 games but couldnt keep up with the aggressive play. Then a losing streak took over an almost cashed out for me. Luckily I worked it back up to about $100. I started playing the $5 and $10 SNGs and got the roll up over $400. Cashed out $75 to blow on some crap and have struggled since then. I consistently build the roll up on some good SNG's finishes in a row then enter a few multitables and work the bankroll back down taking a few shots at a big win. Havent hit one yet but have come close a few times. The 30 person $30 are easier than the huge 500+ entrants - but winning those big prizes would be sweet. Should I settle down and work the bankroll up or keep taking shots (when I could be dead money)????

After I got PT (which helps greatly) my stats gfor .5/1 are:
2164 Hands

-2.2BB/100 hands
Total loss (47.02)

Tournaments
215
1 29
2 26
3 24
Won 172
paid 2133
ITM: 36.7%
ROI: 8%? Is this $won/paid? I dont know?

It looks like, after all that, the only real winner is Party Poker. I read those kids make $30+ mil a month. Nice! I think the only way to make the real money is to get in the internet gambling business. Anyone want to start an offshore internet gambling site and make some real money? Let me know - I will kick in my entire bankroll.

Party .5/1: 17469 Hands / 5.0 BB/100
Party 1/2 : 2936 Hands / -1.8 BB/100

Clearly struggling to make the leap. I'll play another 10,000 at .5/1 and then move up. Or I'll move up once I feel comfortable.

I think me spending a little extra time (37k hands) at .5/1 was a very cheap way to hone my skills while still slaughtering the game. This made my transition to 1/2 (not worth spending a ton of time here) easier than my transition to 2/4 feel like home and just raking in the money.

I started playing January, but was away for about 4 months, and started again this May. I fooled around with the low blind NL games, and now I play mostly .25/.50 limit on stars. Here are my stats:

5,157 hands, 4.94 BB/100. Total won: 127.45.

I lost a lot playing NL though, and that has set me back a bit. I plan on moving up when I have 300 BB of the next level, which will be .5/1. However, the NL setbacks may be helpful to me because I don't really think I am ready for the next level yet--reading many posts here, I have realized my thinking has been off in a lot of ways.

Re: MicroLimit Personal Progress...All Posters Post

I've been all over the map playing various games since winning $15 in a UB freeroll in April ... Played 11,000 hands of $2 buy-in NL and worked the roll over $100, and a couple decent stabs at $25 buy-in NL (I know, I never should have with such a low roll) got me to about $160 by the start of this month.

My plan had always been to switch to .25/.50 limit when I got the needed 300BB roll (even though I feel I'm a better NL player, I also feel it's important to go through the grind learning to play limit well). So, after playing 50 $5+.50 NL SNGs and finishing slightly down (I won't even get into how frustrating that's been, since I think I'm better than my results show), I made the commitment to play limit.

So, here are the (very early) returns.

UB .25/.50 limit
Hands - 2,162
Total win - $29.75
BB/100 - 2.75

This is misleading ... I was up $31 through my first 330 hands thanks to a huge rush of cards, so the jruy's still out on how well I'm actually playing.

hehehe folding AA is a leak unless you know 3 other people have 72o and they will hit 2 pair each and you sit with your crappy pair.

I was posting on the other thread, but since it looks like this is the new thread and I already hit my first goal, this is as good a place as any to put my next goal.

I started in March with $50 playing PS .05/.10. My first goal was to get to .5/1 by the end of the year, accumulating 300BB and 10K hands at each level along the way. Well, four months later, I'm there (although I didn't quite get to the hand levels I'd planned).

3/23/2004 (9080 hands @ PS .05/.10) +$50.48 (504BB) 5.26BB/100
6/5/2004 (8268 hands @ PS .25/.50) +$177.37 (355BB) 5.92BB/100
7/16/2004 (425 hands @ PP .5/1) +$44.89 (45BB) 10.32BB/100

I jumped to .25/.50 early because the BB size is 5 times bigger than the previous level at PS. I moved to PP early because my 50% deposit bonus was about to expire and I felt I like I was ready (although I definitely learned a lot about weak/tight play at PS .25/.50).

My new goal is to hit 2/4 by the end of the year. I know that 1/2 is a stumbling block for a lot of people, but I'm hoping my PS .25/.50 experience will help there. I'm also playing occasional PS 5+.50 SnGs that don't help my BR any, but are an awful lot of fun.

Excellent job. Have we played together at PP/Empire? You are moving up nicely and killing the game.

I originally posted my microlimit goals in the other thread: A big-ass TV and a motorcycle bought with poker winnings.

Since then, however, I found a 32" TV at a garage sale for just $20, so I'm halfway there!

Meanwhile, the poker is going great, though I have had two significant downswings.

Approximate micro stats (before attempting limit, I played about 10,000 hands of NL):

0.05/0.10
Hands: 1,000
BB/100: 7.5

0.25/0.5
Hands: 5,000
BB/100: slightly negative/ break even

0.5/1 (Stars)
Hands: 1000
BB/100: slightly negative/ break even

About this time, I moved from Stars to Party.

.5/1
Hands: 5,100
BB/100: 5.1

1/2
Hands: 100
BB/100: something ridiculous like 12

I'm starting to throw a little 1/2 in the mix, especially when I see one of the guys on my buddy list playing there. So far so good.

This weekend, in particular, was amazing.

Thanks. I doubt we've played together yet -- I just moved to PP this week (I play as dfscott62).

I had another insane night tonight at the .5/1 tables: another 40 BB in 300 hands, plus I cleared a $100 bonus. I know I sounds like an egomaniac, but I feel like these people should just log on and transfer money into my account. Now I see why everyone loves PP .5/1 so much! I'm sure it'll eventually turn (it always does) but it sure is fun now.

BTW, is your moniker a Peter Gabriel reference? And is that your PP id as well?

Even over 30,000 hands at .5/1 I was beating the game for around 5 BB/100. You can kill it. So think the sky is the limit and show me up with a 7 BB/100! hehehe

I get asked this a lot, no it's not. There is a story, but not related to Peter Gabriel. Also my Empire/PP ID is THE_RED_RAIN and THY_RED_RAIN respectfully.

Any problems getting on both party and empire? I'm thinking of looking up an empire affiliate, since party's a bit greedy on their rake.

DFScott if you beat the 25c/50c at Stars consistantly you will have no trouble beating PP 0.50/$1 for more.
