A situation I rarly get into but still struggle with A 9....

1-2NL Live NJ CLUB
Effective Stacks 150 Hero way covers
Tables been very loose and very passive You show down nearly 90%

My image is Rockish as always.....

Hero is delt A 9 off in the BB

7 limpers to the flop

A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

Whats your plan here? This is why I never play ace small especially out of postion.

Do you lead here? Do you go for a check-raise? Whats the proper play with this modest hand?

I hate leading out because I start bulding a pot and gain no information. I hate check raising here because no one will lay down any ace and A 9 is just not that strong..

Just not sure. Suggestions appreciated...

This is a limped pot, no? I probably check-fold if the games bad. Unless it gets checked to a player you know will bet regardless in LP, then maybe I call. If more callers in between I without a doubt checkfold the turn. But if it ends up heads up I'll bet a flush card on the turn or check call another blank, and lead river.

Nothing wrong with flat out checkfolding this without reads tho

I check and see what happens, if only a LP make a small bet I might make a c/r and give up if reraised/called.

It's all limpers, and I assume most people raise with AQ+ and a lot of people raise with AT or AJ. Not that many hands are going to be beating you. Bet something like 1/2 the pot and see what happens.

I agree with this. Live games are full of people that will raise will all kinds of stuff, let alone A-10 or better.

Get a good read at the table of who the players are. Reads are so much more important in the live games. The players dont change as much as on the internet and you really can get a feel for who is tight and who is loose with their calls. Watch what they show down, and base what you do on this. There are tons of players that will not fold any top pair unless the bet is huge. On the internet you just go on to you next hand with the 6 tables that are instantly dealt ... in live games you can wait an hour for top pair and most are not gonna fold it to reasonable bets even if their kicker is junky.

The origional poster said 90% showdowns I try and keep this pot smallish and hope for a cheap showdown. You probably are not gonna get anyone off a worse hand, and almost certainly are not gonna get someone off a better hand. I still think your hand is good unless you are reraised, but want to keep the pot smallish. 20$ bet and check river unless you improve would be my play.
