Opinions on the Dell Dimension 4700

Hi All,

I'm just getting into online play and have been doing 2 tables with my Sony Vaio laptop for about a week after finally getting a high speed hook-up last week. welcome to the 21st century. I've decided to go ahead and get a nice computer for the girlfriend and myself.

Now, keep in mind I know almost nothing about computers and have done the 2 table thing for about a week now at lower limits to get the hang of it. I'm the opposite of the internet player that can't handle chips. I'm the BM player that can't handle a mouse and posted his blinds UTG+1 and folded instead of checking my first time out! Anyhow, after getting the feel, I can definitely see the enormous profit potential.

I looked into a Dell Dimension 4700 with a 21" 2001FP monitor upgrade. According to what I could find in the archives and the FAQ's, this moniter should support the 1600x1200 resolution that's required to get 4 tables on a screen with no overlap. The cost is @ $1275. Are there any other options I should look at or any advice before I go ahead and purchase?

Thanks in advance.

I just got the 8400 series with a Pentium IV 3.0 Ghz processor, 160 gig HD, and a gig o' RAM for under a thousand. My advice is spend a few hundred extra and get a system that will last a few years longer.

Damn, that's expensive. I bought a 4700 in December for $620. Granted I got the 17"FP - I have no problems with 4 tables. Check their small biz website, they usually have better deals.

$1275 is too much. Heres how to do it cheaper...

First, set up a fatwallet account so you can get 3% back on Dell Home purchases. It will take some 4 months for this 3% in your fatwallet account but this is only a small part of your savings.

After setting up your fatwallet account, visit this thread and click on the link in the first post... or just click here instead.

The base configs for this system are are as follows:

Pentium® 4 Processor 520 with HT Technology (2.80GHz, 800 FSB)
Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition
512MB DDR2 SDRAM at 400MHz
19 inch E193FP Analog Flat Panel
40GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM)
Single Drive: 48X CD-RW Drive

...and the price would be $699 before $150 mail in rebate.

Scroll down and upgrade to the 2001FP monitor for $370 and also upgrade to the Pentium 4 3.0GHz processor for $20.

Price should now read $1089 before rebate. You will get the 3% back from fatwallet for a savings of 32.67 and $150 back from mail in rebate. Price after rebates and cashback from fatwallet should be 906.33 (not including the tax on the $1089). Shipping should be free.

Send the check for the difference in price to me

Yeah, the monitor added @ $500. Does the 17" do the job as far as getting 4 tables on a screen w/o overlap?

It can prolly be done cheaper then this but that is damn good price. Offer expires 3/27 i believe.

Ugh... looks like the 3% fatwallet kickback wont work on this offer... still a better price though then what you were looking at though
