Tipping question du jour

Quick poll, and I need answers swiftly.

I did search past tipping threads, but I didn't see anything specifically referencing this.

Do you tip people who do house cleaning? We're having a cleaning place come to clean the bathrooms and kitchen in the new house we're moving into. They should be there about 2 hrs. This is a one-time deal, and not something we're going to be hiring as permanent service.

Thoughts?

As a rule, I'd say no. If they are hot and wear French Maid uniforms, then I think I would probably make an exception.

No. I don't tip my cleaning service.

I guess you could throw them a Merry Christmas bonus or whatever, if you feel up to it.

Hi nolanfan,

How much does the service cost?

Formulating estimates,

if they clean good, 10% would be nice.

especially if these chicks are working for an agency and don't get all of what you're paying.

and especially if they give you a reacharound.

Yes, I'd tip them. How much depends on the cost of their service, time it takes to complete, how many there are, how well they do it etc.

Sometimes you want to tip the helper, Like I used to work with my dad sanding floors and he wouldn't get a tip but since I was helping him (sweep, sand corners etc) I would get a tip varrying from 20-100 dollars depending how big the job was.

So if they have like there daughter/son or some apprentice helping I'd say toss them a bone, they wont be getting paid much as it is

I vote no. I have people who come every week and I give them something extra for the holidays, but I wouldn't tip on a one-time thing. But, I also don't usually tip the housekeepers in hotels either, so I might just be a cheap bastard.

Read dependent.

For a one time job, typically not. For a regular, yes, assuming they do a good job.

For a one time person, only if they did exceptional work.

QUICK REPLY:

They estimated about 2 hrs, two cleaners, $140 total. It is through an agency. Throw in an extra $10 for each at the end?
