Re: Folding AKs pre-flop

My thoughts at the time

I'm not saying this is correct, so don't come down too hard on me.

What I viewed as the best result was for SB to call (all in) and BB. The idea to knock out SB, lock in 2nd, and get to heads up.

The thought then was that SB would be more likely to call a mini-raise than a push.

I agree in general with the idea of going for first rather than second, but given the relative size of the stacks, the chance of giving up 10% (2nd to 3rd) for the chance of playing for first with a 2-1 disadvantage wasn't worth it.

In fact, a part of the the actual thought process was, that if I were the short stack, having the 2nd place player all in is what I'm praying for at the table.

Thanks for the input everyone.

Re: Folding AKs pre-flop

Huh, very interesting post. I put this into SGA, and put bigstack as button, and hero as BB, to get a better flavor for how this plays.

Here is how the numbers play out:
Loose 22+, A2+, KT+, QJs
-0.6%
Aggressive 44+, A7s+, A9o+, KJs+
-1.5%
Tight 66+, ATs+, AJo+
-2.2%

Now, I resubmitted, but adjusted the blinds to "represent" your dead chips in the blinds.

L/A/T
-0.4%/-1.3%/-2.0%

Very interesting exercise. Thanks for posting.

PS - Pushing is the only correct +EV move here (in terms of moving allin preflop vs bigstack).

That's hillarious. We just showed how it's -EV to shove at this point. LOL
