Should be standard...

This one is from a B&M on Friday, and I'll do my best to recount the action.

When I first sat down in seat 11, villian was sleeping in seat 6. He busted seat 7 with a flopped set of tens, which he playeed somewhat aggressively. Overall, he seems like a standard opponent, not too tight, not too loose.

Casino Rama $5-$10 Holdem (11-handed)

Preflop:
6 players limp, Hero limps, SB completes, BB checks.

Every checks to CO, who bets. Hero ...

*max rake is 1sb, which will be taken at 10sb, so I've subtracted it here.

For better or worse I'd raise here, expecting a weak ace to cold call two somewhere in early position, spike a 9 on the turn and lose to the flush draw by by seat 6.

But seriously my standard here is to raise online, but live I might call and wait for the turn, in my experience a flop raise here will only drop 3-4 players making 4-5 to the turn and if seat 6 is agressive you might get 3-bet by a flush draw. Call and reevaluate on the turn.

Re: Should be standard...

I think a raise here is mandatory. While a flush draw will never fold, a weak ace may fold sometimes, along with higher pocket pairs fearing an A, and it would be great if 86 folded. Obviously I'd hate it when CO has a good ace and will 3-bet me, but I think that protecting my hand in this medium-sized pot is almost mandatory. I think folding is bad, so raising has to be the play.
