PGA taking a page from Nascar?

I just saw a crawler on espn2 which said that the PGA is going to implement some kind of regular season/playoff system like they use in nascar, taking effect in 2007. Obviously this could turn out horribly, but what kind of format would work well? Would we see any kind of head-to-head competition, or the same tournaments as before, with fewer participants' results really making a difference down the stretch?

And most importantly, will it attract the black athlete?

It's going to be weird. There will be a big wad of bonus money and tournaments after the tour championship for the guys hoping to keep a card. That's my guess based on a few articles I have read, but we'll see. What you will see is the big names playing a bunch in august and september then packing it in until the silly season in nov. and dec. where they will use silly season to get ready. That's my wild guess.

Why is attracting black people the most important thing?

Why would a different tournament format attract black people?

What it should do is make Tiger care a little more about playing in more than just the majors and the ones his sponsors run. PGA people are smart. Tiger = ratings. Any Jason Gore-type stuff that happens is just a bonus from there on.

Pro golfers are independent contractors, the tour doesn't own them. Tiger can and will play wherever and whenever he wants. And do you think the tour is going to want to make a policy that would piss off Tiger?
