Short-Stacked, Freeroll

Freeroll tournament, 2000 entries.. Top 18 pay.

160 left. Blinds 150-300, Antes 50. Hero has only 3000 chips and gets A-Q on the button.

UTG, 30k Chips, limps in, everybody else folds. Easy push all-in? Or a 3-4x BB raise? Or stop and go if you flop a pair, fold if you miss?

This is a freeroll. If you think you have the better hand, push. Just don't be surprised to see him hold something like K9 and hitting.

I think it's an easy push.

Super easy push with your stack.

Raise to 4 1/2XBB and move in after all flops.

Hero needs to do more than pick up T750 in the pot. He needs to double up. You can't let villain fold his hand.

Completely agree... Pushing could see him call with a random worse hand and hit something. I would put part of my chips in, hope he calls, then push on the flop. Get half his money instead of losing all of yours.

you are right at the 10x which would call for pushing. But you need to take a higher risk play here to get some chips. You should make a raise of around 3-4x. Then get all in on any flop. Pushing would be ideal, but calling is fine too.

Precisely what I did.. and I thought it was the right play then, and still think it is now.

Raised it to 1200.. 30k UTG who limped in called.. Flop came 6-5-3, He checked, I pushed the rest of my 1800, and he called.. Q-5.

I don't see the point of waiting 4-5 cycles for a good hand to play, if I'm only going to win 2 1/2 BB's with it.

Thanks for your responses guys!
