putting coated pots and pans in the dishwasher
 

i put some coated (non stick, possibly teflon?) pots and pans in the dishwasher. apparently that was a no-no for some reason, but i dont know the reason? is it simply a matter of the dishwasher eroding the coating or what? would one trip in the dishwasher ruin them?

No, one trip won't ruin them.

The diswasher can erode the coating faster because dishwasher detergents are more abrasive than normal handwash soap. Also, the rack tines frequently end up without their rubber coating on the very end which can scratch the coating.

ok this is pretty much what i was thinking. didnt think about the times though. i was also thinking the dishwasher heat might have had something to do with it.

Certain Calphalon products can't go in the dishwasher even once without ruining them, according to Calphalon. So be careful with that.

and of course by "ruining" them, we mean they will have simply lost their nonstickitiveness, right? we can still cook with them without risk of toxic poisoning or something?
