driving pet peeves (i felt like snapping again)

today within 30 minutes of driving i was faced with every driving pet peeve i have.

1. drivers that switch from the middle lane into the right lane and aren't turning at the interesection but are indeed going straight (i am turning, therefore i have to wait for the light to turn green). there was no reason for the switching of lanes, so why?

2. drivers that pull out in front of you from a parking area and you are on a high traffic street going 50+ MPH and they do not come close to giving it the gas when they get in front of you.

3. drivers that slow down to get on a highway/tollroad etc.

4. drivers on the tollroad that somehow miss "tolltag only" signs every 20 yards for 300 yards and then at the last second realize that they don't have one and cause a traffic jam b/c they have to move over from the left lane to the far right lane.

what are your pet peeves?

i know what all of mine have in common, that one day i will put rocket launchers on the front of my car and...

nah, annoying but i can live w/ all of those. it's the motherjokers who think theyre more important than everyone else.

long line of cars turning left and a few cars go by in the right lane and at the final turn cut into the line and turn left w/ everyone.

Exactly. I saw one punkass last night pull into the left turn lane at a red light. There was one car and me in line to go straight. No oncomming traffic. When the light turns green, the guy in the left turn lane blasts straight off and pulls in front of the guy going straight. WTF?

Drivers that cut you off on the toll lane at the entrance of a bridge after you've been waiting in that lane for a while. Especially when the passenger riding shotgun waves their hand at you to "thank you" as they're cutting you off.

People that change lanes w/out signaling. Come on how hard is it to be a considerate safe driver and USE THE DAMN SIGNAL, A - HOLES

When two (three) cars are going the same speed, making it impossible to pass either (any) of them. Worse than this is when both (all) are going under the speed limit. Worst of all is when it happens on the freeway. Left lane is for passing; if you want to do the same speed as your neighbor, get behind him.

This is probably the most annoying to me. Ugh, I'm getting pissed just thinking about it.

I hate it when the driver in front of me at a red light stops 40 feet short of the guy in front of him. And then he starts creeping up a few feet at a time, and then another few feet. After a while, you feel obligated to make up some of the distance between the two of you, so you move up. Then he starts inching his way forward again. What sort of fidgety bastard can't sit at a light for a minute or two without having to screw around?

My biggest one is the yield sign mis-interpretation.

So you've got a yield sign as you swing right to enter a cross street.
There is a lane for you, and you are supposed to yield if someone is in that lane coming your way.

Cars are coming your way, but noone is in your target lane.

But the idiot stops to wait for all cars in all lanes to pass. Drives me nuts.

Most driving stuff that I get upset about, I forget about in like 20 seconds, unless you almost cause an accident.

Other than that, the only thing that really bugs me is when I'm obviously being nice and letting you get in front of me, or turn, or something, and you don't at least give me the hand or something. Acting like you were owed that window of opportunity.

I hate this one two. Unless its stop n' go traffic, there's absolutely no reason for cars to drive side by side. Its not just for passing - if for some reason something happens, having an empty lane to swerve into can be very important. I especially hate this when I'm on my bike - either pass me or slow down and I'll pull in front, but don't [censored] pace me...

I also *really* hate drivers who think they are smarter than everyone else because they shoot down the empty lane and merge as late as possible. Hypothetically when traffic is relatively light, two lanes can merge into one without anyone having to stop, except that all it takes is a couple of assholes like this and the whole line has to stop as they force their way in.

For those haven't seen, you should check this page on traffic waves. It really drives home the point that if everyone drove more consciously we could all get where we're going a lot faster, and that all it takes are a few assholes to screw up an entire road.

I used to hear this called the "Rhode Island Wave" - when someone cuts you off and then waves "thanks" at you. I'm actually starting to think its a pretty good philosophy for life in general - if you have to screw someone, be sure to thank them afterwards...

Anybody in a sports car that isn't doing the speed limit or above. Use it or lose it.

I hate when you are driving on a country road and the speed limit is 60 yet the guy in the first car is doing 40. Hey [censored], if 20 cars are tailgating you, chances are you are driving too slow. Get the F_ck over and let everyone pass.

middlelaners - the people that sit doing around or less than the speed limit on the middle lane of a 3 lane motorway and never leave it. even when there is nothing in the slow lane. everyone has to get into the fast lane to overtake and it drives me slightly mental.

I hate people who won't make a right turn on red when it's legal, no matter how safe it is. And people who won't use turn signals.

People who are waiting at a light, knowing they are turning left but they have no signal on. Light changes and they slowly creep out..and stop and turn their left turn signal on. And I am stuck behind them for the duration of the green because traffic is whizzing by in the right lane. Grounds for homicide, nearly.

Not following the 1 car length per 10 mph rule.

At a 4 way, turning left in front of of the car going straight.

just experienced...

5. on my way home from seeing North Country, drivers that swing way out when turning. if you are turning left there is no need to veer out to the right before you turn you jackass, all you do is come close to hitting me.

I used to get bothered by all the stuff in this thread, but these days, the one thing that bothers me is those god damn speed bumps.
