Posting the Blinds

I noticed that some players will sit out their turn to post the blinds and then come back in when the SB passes them. There seems to be an advantage in order to return to the game and posting the blinds, but in better position. Is this correct?

yes and no.

the advantage is that you get to post you blinds in late position. the disadvantage is that you are paying the same amount in blinds and being dealt out of 3 hands (BB, SB, and Button). i think the disadvantage is much greater than the advantage. however, if you need to take a break that lasts more than a hand or 2, this is probably the best time to take it.

I think it's a disadvantage to skip your blinds and post when the button has passed. 1) You miss 2 opportunities to see a flop cheaply and hit a big, but disguised hand. 2) you miss playing a hand in the best position, and 3) when you post behind, 1/3 or more of the money you post is dead, so even in a pot where you check with limpers, you're putting up 150% of the bet your opponents need to put up to see the flop.

Missing the button and posting dead money to me at the very least offsets not being dealt in twice out of position.
