Well, I thought it was kinda funny. It was explained to me as freeroll buy in + entry fee. But the trip is a cruise to the Bahamas or something worth 3k for 2 people. 7 day I think. Capped at 80 players. Freezout obviously, start with 1500 chips. Other than that, I dont know much, call the room for info. 702-785-5555

Based on management description given to me this blunder suites them.

With new rooms now and coming, I bet Aladdin's PR is suffering.

The old Aladdin casino and the new one both struggled, back in '03 when I first moved here I recall talks of the NEW Aladdin going into bankrupcy.

With competition comes fatalities, usually....

pretty soon though, they'll be planet Hollywood Casino.

So then you'll be surrounded by overpriced food and crappy movie memorablia as opposed to just lights/slot machines. That Star Wars machine outside the poker room is just the start. (Dealers predicted it'd drive them crazy hearing that theme music 100+times a day)

I THINK it even has the movie showing 7x24 on top of the slot machine.

But the upside is that they may survive at least. I liked the Aladdin. I think they could have done things better as the interior in general looks a little "cheap" (e.g. the lamp). But they were struggling fom the beginning.

There's a big difference between the building of the Wynn and the Aladdin. The Aladdin investors always hesitated to add additional money. Didn't they know that building a thing like that will be more expensive than initially planned?
On the opposite Steve Wynn was able to add money (his own or from the investors) whenever needed.

The Aladdin was doomed from the first day. And 9/11 gave them the final hit. It may sound strange but after 9/11 the "Theme" of the Aladdin drove a lot of customers away for some time. Already struggling that was the end of it.

Expensive or not - I think Planet Hollywood might be able to create something unique again and fill the casino with people. It was awful to see the low number of customers even at peek hours.
At least is is better than having a closed casino on one of the best parts of the strip.

If the trip is worth $3000 (so I heard it's valued at) then with 80 players your EV (assuming all have an equal chance to win) is...

3000/80 = 37.5

So for a $50 entry, it's not really that great a deal. At first I wanted to play in it, but now I think it's not really worth it. This is especially true given that you'll have to get to port (possible airfare) plus pay taxes and tips etc etc... cruises are usually very expensive.

Update:

Tourney is 3 events. Winner of each event wins a cruise. Part of the "entry fee" goes to cover the costs of the cruises as part to pay the dealers to work it.

The cruise winners also have a chance on the cruise to win a seat into the 2K5 WSOP. (freerolled into that tourney)

Prizes are guaranteed even if 80 players dont sign up.
