3/6 - 3rd highest 4-flush

no reads on villain

How does this all look? I have the 3rd highest flush on the river here. It's really tough to put him on the Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] as well because he didn't bet or c/r the flop. So really that leaves a hand with K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] or 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (unlikely) as one of the only ones that can beat me.

How do you play this out?

I think doing anything other than what you did would be a mistake. Nice hand.

This looks fine to me. I think that most often you just got check/raised by a worse flush (something like 66 with the 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]), but since there are 3 potential flushes that can beat you and I don't see many of the hands you beat putting a third bet in on the river, a 3-bet can't be for value.

This obviously changes with a solid read on your opponent.

FWIW, against an unknown I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] or 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]--plenty of players will take a WA/WB line with a weak Q on the flop, and you also can't rule out 3x3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] playing the hand this way.

Nice hand.

The river bet is a good value bet, since you will win 1 BB those 6 times Villain calls with a smaller flush and lose 2 BB those 2 times he check-raises you with the nuts.

So betting the river has an EV of at least (6*1 - 2*2)/8 BB = +0.25 BB (assuming Villain never folds a flush you can beat).

If Villain will sometimes call without a flush or checkraise you with some flushes you can beat, you will make more.

However, it's unlikely that you would make money by 3-betting (I'm too lazy to do the math properly).
