1 Card Up...Live Ruling
 

10/20 Live Play at Rio Las Vegas last week.

I'm dealt one card face down and the K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] face up as the second card on the button. I look down and find the K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] to make K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. Now, had I known, I would have flipped the second card over quickly, hoping to get by with it. Can I keep the face-up card? After all, I can voluntarily flip up a card and play with one card face-up if I choose.

Also, what would you do if the dealer did not see the mistake?

Also, what is the correct ruling from the floor?

No, you can not keep it. If it was exposed by dealer error you get the burncard as your second card... there is no option.

If you flip it up intentionally that is something different entirely.

You should hvae flipped the second card over quickly either way.... not sure what you were waiting for... it's not like it was a 2. I guess you could pretend like you did it on purpose.... but next time just flip it over and hope no one notices.

This is an easy situation.

1) You can't keep the card. Dealer mistakes do not give you free options. It wouldn't be fair to the other players.

2) You want a new card unless you already know you have a king down. Having players know one of your cards is a huge disadvantage. With no knowledge of your other downcard, you do not want people knowing that you have a king.


This kind of gets at a discussion I tried to start in the general forum. I played poker one night with some friends for low stakes and played the whole night with 1 card face up. How should my strategy change now that my opponents know one of my cards?

Why isn't this quite obvious? You should still make exactly the same plays as always for given boards, actions, and hand ranges except you know that your opponents can seriously narrow your hand range and therefore you must seriously widen their hand range.
