checkraising to isolate the bettor

was just rereading HPFAP to pick up on a few more hints, and came across the part about checkraising with low pair/overcard kicker or with top pair/bad kicker to isolate a bettor. How well can this tactic be employeed at the micro-limit level?

Here's one where I put it into play last night:

I call 5 limpers from the small blind with A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]6 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]
Six callers (gotta love these fish)

Flop is 2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]
I check
Checked around to button, who is a very loose player
button bets
I raise to isolate the button
Folded around to button, button calls

Comments? Good play, bad, otherwise?

Was the button loose-passive or loose-aggressive?

If he's loose aggressive, and you can pretty much count on him to bet when checked to, this is an excellent play, because in letting it get checked around you might find out you're beat before it gets back to you, and if it's checked to the button and he bets, you c/r making it 2 bets cold to the field, likely getting it heads up with a LAG with top pair.

If the button was loose passive, I would just bet out here, for fear of it being checked around and having to bet into a large field on the turn with a small pot, out of position, which is never desirable.

Loose aggressive, and I mean the guy was betting anything and everything. He had limped in with a suited 92 and bet bottom pair/nine kicker into a huge field.

In which case, I like this play a lot. If you had AK though, I think you should bet out here. Do you see why?

(Sorry, I couldn't resist the last bit, I've never had the chance to say that before.)

I wish I had the AK, cause maybe this guy would've folded if I bet out. A damn 9 slid off on the river and he won with nines and deuces
