So I saw the new poker room at the MGM today

Like the title says, I was with family going to have lunch at Rainforest Cafe and saw the new room, I heard it opens on Monday? Anyway it's in the front area near the bar(near the LV blvd and Trop entrances. It appeared to be about 15 or so tables, then I saw an opening into a rear area which looked the same(one side faces the Rainforest Cafe, the other faces the casino area), so I am guessing like 25-30 tables and it has a similar flair to the decor of the Hustler Casino.

Anyway, thought I'd put here, haven't heard anything in a while.

I was in Vegas last week when they were working on it. It's looking pretty nice so far.

Hi Dog:

In my opinion, given the huge number of people in the MGM, this could become a place with very good poker games.

For what's it worth, in addition to Wynn, I've also heard that Caesars will be opening a 30 table room.

Best wishes,
Mason

In Dec of 98 I moved to Vegas. The MGM alsways had great games with a lot of hotel guests. One of the things I really like about the old room was the long walk from the parking structure made less desirable for the local rocks.

Re: So I saw the new poker room at the MGM today

I was at the MGM Grand this past week, since I had a buddy in town that wanted to see the new sportsbook... Anyways, I happened to notice the new pokerroom with quite a few people in it. (Dealers and Management). I had an opportunity to speak with 2 of the management team (1 of them was a Chris, I believe). They were the nicest guys, and were very informative. The room opens on Monday, March 28th at noon. 23 tables, including 1 table that is in a "skybox" overlooking the sportsbook. (Didn't get to see it myself, but apparently it will be used for higher limit games, etc...) Players will be able to order food right at the table at the touch of a button by the dealer. Dealers will also be able to page a cocktail server, along with swiping an MGM players card for comps. I think I remember him saying it will be $1.50 an hr for comps. All of the tables looked to have automatic shufflers on them. There seemed to be a ton of space in between each table, as well. Those that have played at the Mirage on a busy night know how cramped you can feel playing poker. I saw several plasma tv's on the wall, some of them featuring an electronic message board/waiting list board. I was told a player is free to roam about the casino while they're on the waiting list. (Some sort of paging device will be given to the player) Just the looks of it alone make it a contender for being in the top 3 in Vegas. I'm sure when Wynn opens, these will be the 2 best rooms going. Kudos to management for taking time out to speak with me! I have a feeling this will be a great room, one that everyone should check out...

First of all, thanks to the original poster for the update. I'm moving into the room for two weeks in May and it's appreciated. Secondly,

Wow. Talk about coming out of the corner swinging. I guess the formerly "lower end of the comp scale" card room managers are feeling a little better about life these days.

With 5000 rooms overhead and given that MGM is more a beginner/first trip to Vegas type of casino - it should have more than its share of fishy players.

I will be there next week and will post a trip report.
