Bellagio and Comps
 

I am headed to Vegas for the first time in my life (I am 35 - I know, it's been a long time coming). Can anyone assist me in getting the most bang for my buck as far as comps are concerned if almost all of my casino play is in the poker room. I plan to play in a lot of $50-$100 buy-in tournaments and some small stakes NLHM tables ($300 buy-in). I would also like to see/meet some of the poker pros I see on TV so often.

Any tips/ideas?

Check out The Frugal Gambler by Jean Scott (there is also a sequel) for tips about taking advantage of comps. The Bellagio isn't the best spot for this most likely- it takes a ton of higher money play for them to even care. For instance, you can't even get your table game play rated unless you are playing green chips or more.

Thank you for the advice! Where would you suggest playing in Vegas that has the most smaller buy-in tourneys and has a lot of smaller buy-in NLHM tables? Also - I wouldn't mind seeing a few of the big name players. I will be in town the 18th through the 23rd of this month.

At best Bellagio will give you a line pass for the buffett if you are 15-30 or higher. The tourneys they have are $500+40 and $1000+40, so you may be playing at Flamingo and MGM for tourneys in the $50-100 buy-in range.

Bellagio can accomodate your NL buy-in. I think they have a $200 min/max game, which means at $199 you can rebuy to $399.

The pros play in Bobby's room w/in the poker room and it's off limits. But they do go to the sportsbook a lot and the bathroom of course.

The poker room rate is the best comp you can get at Bellagio. $129 weekdays and $199 weekends. Saves a ton over the rack rate and is better than any promotional rate they've offered. You can play and stay at one of if not the best hotels in Vegas. Unless you are very special or very persistent, dinner comps are non-existent, but line passes to the Bellagio Cafe or the un-sanitary buffet are easy to get, just ask.

i am a nobody, but i managed to get 2 $15 food comps when i was there. Both times I just approached a floorperson with a $5 chip and asked for a food comp. Enjoy!

Call their poker room and tell them you'd like to stay there whatever night it is for the poker room rate. They wil, if I remember correctly, inform you of the playing requirements (in August, 8 hrs. of play) It was a pretty smooth process.
