I should change question number 3 to the following:

3. If you found a book, the contents of which consisted only of:

"This book is written by the Christian God. There is a bear and a flea in your room."

Would that influence your beliefs?

Not at all. But it's reason enough to proceed under the assumption it's not there. Imagine without having any evidence for it, you went through life believing a deadly strain of tse-tse fly were in every room you walked into. Are you better or worse off for holding this belief withough evidence?
