When is a donk bet a donk bet?
 

As I understand it, a donk bet is when someone bets into the preflop raiser. It seems to me that this is not always wrong. Is the issue that if you feel you have true strength you should check-raise on the flop? Other than folding, this leaves checking and calling as the only option, which seems weak to me.

For example, let's say you call in early position with AJo, maybe get a few limpers, and a late position raise. If an ace hits the flop, your bet might force out weaker drawing hands and perhaps causing a fold from the late position raiser.

If a jack also fell on the flop I can see a check raise on the flop as the correct action.

So my question is basically when is a donk bet really a donk bet?

A donk bet is leading into an aggressor when you arent planning to 3 bet or make some move later in the hand to extract further value.
Leading a flopped 4 flush into a big field = good idea
Betting into TAG w/ 2 pair on a rag board, calling a raise, and then c/ring the turn = good idea
Leading into PFR with 73o on an AKQ board = donk bet

Most 2+2ers think a donk bet is made OOP on the turn or river in order to 3 bet it, or to get aggressor to call a bet when he would have otherwise checked behind, such as rivering a one card flush, or picking up 2 pair on the river on a scary board for a PFR

A donk is any bet on any postflop round in which you weren't the final raiser on the previous round.

Example: you lead the flop, and get raise behind you. You call and then bet the turn. Somebody else was the raiser on the flop, but you are betting the turn, this is a donk bet.

This is a more accurate definition. You'll often see 'donk' used without implying further intention.

Some posters seem to use donk-bet as a pejorative, but others use it simply to describe the action.

In the pejorative sense, calling down a raise on the flop then turning the nut straight and betting out again is not so much a donk bet, but in terms of the action, it surely is.

Not really.

The min raise is often used to get a LAG to make a big raise into you to chase you out.
