Question about rake for the old timers
 

If you've been playing for 20+ years or you know some things about games 15-20 years old, then maybe you can help me. back then (before my time, im just a "kid") what was the standard casino rake?

can anybody recall what your typical rake was in pokerrooms back then? please state the %rake and the $max

also, please tell what limits it was at

anybody remember rakes on any of the follow games?: (just trying to get ballbark estimates for the micro's, low stakes, mid limits, and such so please if you know anything state it)

In the 1960's, there were some games that were called "snatch and grab" where the dealer made change out of their tray to rake the game, and there was no drop box on the game. If you were drunk or totally oblivious, you were in trouble. The dealer might rake 10%, 20% - whatever they thought they could get away with.

Game limit and type were not usually different, although at Harrah's in Reno, the stud game went to a $3 max while the hold'em game stayed at a $2 max for a long time. Standard rake when I started playing (1979) was 5% up to $2 and they took 50 cents each time the pot reached or increased by $10. In the mid '80's, games in Vegas were 5% to $3 and then later 10% to $3 with games in Reno/Tahoe following suit in the late 1980's and early '90's. There were a few places where the rake had already increased to $3, but that was the exception.

Considering the rise in inflation, the current 10% to $4 or $5 is not a bad increase over the past 10 years.

I don't get it. 10-20 is still 10-20, they are just raking more per hand.

It should be obvious that 10/20 isn't as big of a game as it used to be. Today's 10/20 might be closer to 1960's 2/4. Lower limits are always raked at a higher percent than higher limits and 10/20 is slowly become a lower limit.
