table coach calls me a rookie... thought I should post the hand:)

First hand at .5/1 NL table. My stack is $50, everyone else's $25 or less.

I'm in BB with Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

3 calls, button raises to $2, SB fold, I call, 3 limpers call.

Flop (pot = $10.25, 5 players):

8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 10 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

I bet $7, guy in EP pushes all-in for $20, 3 folds, I call.

1) Should I re-raise pre-flop?

2) Should I check on the flop and see what action develops or was betting ok? I didn't want to give any free cards to any ace or king, so I bet.

3) Should I have folded to the raise?

Thanks!

I think that you should have re-raised this pre-flop. You are out of position in a multi-way pot with a hand that you could lose a lot with. Since you didnt, everything else is fine.

Yes. You're out of position vs. a large field. Limit the field, push out crap hands.

A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] won't fold to your bet. K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] maybe. If you had reraised pf, this would be an autobet. As it is, if you get called, you have to hate your hand. With this flop and this many players, I think I'd check. You only have 1 out to the nuts, other hearts, J's, or Q's may give you expensive 2nd best hands. Also the pot's not that big, and you don't have that much invested in it.

For a bigger raise, it's an easy fold. Against an all-in with 2:1 odds? I'd probably make a crying call here if everyone else folds. You probably are either ahead against A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]X or have outs against a made flush or set.
