Atlantic City Regulars

I see the same people every time I go down to the casinos but don't know the gossip, background, and skill level for most of them. We need a who's who of Atlantic City poker ...

Inspired by this very good thread

Re: Atlantic City Regulars

In my week there, there was one guy who I saw almost every day at the Taj. He seemed to be russian, he had a strong accent, thin with short grayish hair and beard. I saw him 4 times in 4 days and he always wore the same clothes, gray jogging pants and a purple atlantic city t-shirt.

I played with him once at 3/6, he knew most of the dealers, had lots of bad beat stories to tell. He kept yelling at the floor to change the dealers as a joke. Actually he kept yelling at everybody he knew.

He wasn't very good, but not very bad either. The game was tight so he said that in those games you have to play any two suited cards, from any positions. It seemed to work for him as he made a few two pair hands with his low cards and picked up a huge pot with an 8 high flush.

Re: Atlantic City Regulars

For instance, every time I go to the Taj Mahal, I see a short, mildly overweight woman, probably in her fifties, who is always followed by a tallish, younger, light-complected black man with a blocked-off haircut. The black guy always seems to be agreeing with her and repeating back affirmatively whatever she says to him. She calls all of the dealers and floormen by their first names and hops around from table to table all night, playing 2/4 and 5/10. She is really annoying. Beyond that I don't know anything about her, or a lot of the other people I see frequently.

Let's get some info on the regulars folks, this could be really interesting ...

Re: Atlantic City Regulars

I osted this in the railbirds thread by accident as well.

I played at the Borg for the second time this weekend, 1-2 NLHE, sat with some characters you guys would probably know.

Friday night/sat morning, I sat at the far end of the room, with two guys who were definate regulars. They knew each other and talked bout a lot of aquaintances. One guy was younger, mid 20s, well dressed, listening to an ipod, tall and skinny, pretty solid player.

The other guy was older, in his forties, with Douglas McArthur looking sunglasses, kind of crotchety, talked to himself a lot trying to figure out people's plays. Also had headphones, but a kmart looking ipod.

Saturday i sat in the middle of the flor, also at 1-2 nlhe. The two people directly to my left were definately your grider types, One was a fat greasy older guy, baling, wearing a black 'got poker' t, he was wearing a bracelet, but i couldn't read what it said, it looked more like something from a carnival rather than the wsop. he wouldn't shut up about his poker resume, how he's won over 1mm in the last 15 years and is buddies with benny binion and mike matasow etc. etc. dude gave me a headache.

the chick next to him had like two racks of chips and about 3000 in front of her, kind of flighty, thin, and a unique fashion sense, seemed nice, but definately weird. She was busting people left and right. I was pretty impressed with her play, but she was definately catching some good cards, including rivering a two outer to bust my ass.

it was a bad weekend. hopefully this weekend at the tstone will be better.

hmm ... how about this one:

pretty asian (korean?) girl
early-mid 20s
very "well put-together" (fashionable, nice clothes and jewelry)
nice breasts that she displays via low-cut yet tasteful blouses
great smile and is often smiling
plays $20/$40 (and sometimes higher) at the Borg

anyone know who i'm talking about?

since i started the AC railbird post, i'll handle these posts w/ ease...
This one is easy. The lady u are talking about is Elaine. I don't know the african american lackey, but i know who you are talking about. Her famous line is, "may the raiser, be the loser..." She is a ultra weak player who likes to see flops. I know her from my tropicana days where she would ALWAYS buy in for the minimum and bust out and go all in every time. She always yells at me and everyone else who smokes near the poker tables (happens more at the trop) she says she no longer plays at the trop and I have seen her at the taj. Solid losing player.

Next question...

lol. This one is easy as well.
You are talking about Dawn. She is not korean, but vietnamese. I personally know her pretty well, and could tell you alot about her, but i'll just give you a short bio. She is a very attractive and flirty girl and very fun to hang out w/ outside the poker room. She has a new bf now, her ex was a good friend of mine so we hung out alot. She is/was a borgata waitress. She saves so many bets by guys checking down w/ her and letting her draw out for free. And when she makes a move, she will win most of the time because the befuddled guy will give her the benefit of the doubt. If she gets a bad beat, BE CAREFUL...wheels will come off, sparks will fly everywhere, and she will play any two card suited and go for runner runner on your ass. =)

Yup, that's her - name sounds familiar, too. I think she hates playing with me because I'm one of the few guys who she can't charm out of a pot and I've given her a few bad beats ("i had outs") ...

"Tiger123".....50-something caucasian guy, usually plays 6/12 and NL at the Borgata, says he cashed high in a major tourney. Probably slightly better than average player, and a pretty annoying character at times.

There's another one who I'm hoping someone can identify: he's a 30ish white guy, receding hairline, goatee. I usually see him at the weeknight tourney, and every time I saw him during the fall/winter, he was wearing the same Eagles sweatshirt and jeans. I think he's won at least a few tourneys there and gets pretty vocal and pissy about bad beats.

actually im familiar with all the girls mentioned so far, but initially i thought we were talking about Jade, but ive never seen her play 20-40 at borg. taj yes, but not borg.
jade is on the short side, likes to wear low cut jeans, show off her rack, make up. usually drinking some type of alcohol. she has black hair with a streak of some color in it in the back (hairdresser sister)
theres a tall asian girl, who plays these limits who was/is dating one of the players (an asian guy) who plays the higher limits. i forget her name. long hair, nice rack, sometimes dresses up nice and sexy.

In reference to one of the players in the other thread: The first time I ever played live, at the Taj, I got seated next to Pat, the deaf-mute guy who's #5 on that list. He was getting really pissed after taking a couple of beats and was throwing his cards at the dealer practically every hand. We get involved in a hand, I raise him on the river with 3rd pair (I was pretty bad then), and he proceeds to show me two pair before folding! He looked at me as if he expected me to show, so I didn't disappoint him, and he just about lost it. He gave me the finger, yelled something at me that sounded like a**hole, and kicked over his chair before taking his chips and leaving. Ahhh, the Taj experience.

Re: Atlantic City Regulars

Perhaps 2+2 would consider breaking out B&M Cardrooms to Atlantic City,Las Vegas/Nevada, California, Arizona, Connecticut and other. It would be much easier to get relevant material and to respond and to part of a "community".

I like the gossip on regulars but, as always, an effort should be made to be civil and less sexist. Save the rudeness for RGP. Perhaps threads could be started on each of these regulars. The comments on Tiger are very funny to me but I hope we're not too rude as he does seem to making an effort to be less abrasive. Still, I would pay $200 to see everyone at Tiger's table take their shirts off to reveal a t-shirt with that photo on it, or to pull out card spinners with that image on it after he has won a hand. (Heck, just print the photo and we'll all whip it out and ask for his autograph.)

This is all the humane side of poker that strategists often miss and is often very interesting and somewhat useful. I have played a bit with most of the personalities mentioned and have used that extra information they offer to advantage. The more you know of a person the better you can put it all together.

Anyone know anything about Rocco (sp?) from the Borgata? I think he mostly plays PL but I used to see him all the time at various NL games. He seems to be really good and really lucky, which of course is a horrible combination (gave me one of my worst bad beat ever when I the flop came A33 and I had pocket aces and he had pocket 3's (and yes, I raised preflop)).

I'd love to hear the backstory on this guy. His appearance/demeanor/etc make me think of a made guy.

Most of my friends that play there also have bad beat stories from him, so I'm sure there are more of those out there too.

rocco goes down to the borgata every weekend, they don't spread pl there anymore, he plays the 5-10 or 10-25nl games. he's a strong player, willing to gamble with you at times, and also capable of making big bluffs. i only know him from logging many hours at the tables with him, but i like him a lot. i can't speak to whether he's "made", although clearly he's been around the block (he mentioned once in passing that he's had "a rough life"). anyway, obviously he has led a rich and colorful life, so he's very interesting to talk to. i think he's a very cool guy, and i also believe he's an honorable person.

i used the wrong word. as i said in my first post, i don't know him outside the cardroom. i should have said i believe him to be an honorable gambler. and even if he's done shady things in his life (again, i have no idea if he has or hasn't), he doesn't strike me as somebody who'd screw over his friends (which is one way i'd define "honorable").
