Re: Figured I would start the Nightly REBUY thread early today......

No shame in folding the button, ya know.
It's just that when the standard raise is 36k, a 30k raise there either screams "I really want a call" or "I'm saving a little more of my stack in case I'm reraised."

Oh, I have 27k at second break of late night 11r. Haven't picked up a hand in a while, but I'm moving ahead thanks to bizarre hands like this one:

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t400 (9 handed) converter

SB (t19985)
BB (t6470)
UTG (t12587)
UTG+1 (t22785)
MP1 (t22290)
MP2 (t21108)
MP3 (t7341)
Hero (t23990)
Button (t15128)

Preflop: Hero is CO with Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].
4 folds, MP3 raises to t1200, Hero calls t1200, 3 folds.

Flop: (t2600) A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)
MP3 checks, Hero checks.

Turn: (t2600) K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)
MP3 bets t2000, Hero calls t2000.

River: (t6600) 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players)
MP3 checks, Hero checks.

Final Pot: t6600

Results in white below:
MP3 has 6h Jc (high card, ace).
Hero has Qh Kd (one pair, kings).
Outcome: Hero wins t6600.

i didnt actually think about it, just figured too many chips to shove, so 2.5bb would do. I hadnt had anycards/it folded to me for like 3 orbits, so wanted some chips Maybe i should have just shoved

Re: Figured I would start the Nightly REBUY thread early today......

understandable... that's just what I thought when I saw it. I think either a shove or a fold is the best play there. (Unless you have a hand that welcomes action.)

I just caught my rush and I'm at 53k. JJ wins the race against AK, 22 flops a set, I call a raise in BB with K9s, flop the 9 for top pair and win a decent pot against 88. Top 10 in chips but still a long way to go.

tell me a better way to play this / do i call this turn?

my good chip position was part of the reason i folded (blech), but i also instafolded without really thinking about my opponent's hand. this is a problem i have. help me out.

Anyone still awake? I'm at 3rd break, second in chips with 120k. 68 left, pays 45, 4800 for first.
I'll keep you posted.

Re: Am now one of two massive chip leaders

Dropped just under 300k at fourth break. Losing races against short stacks, losing an AK to an AQ, getting reraised preflop frequently, that'll do it.

Re: Am now one of two massive chip leaders

done in 13th. i lost half my big stack when my KK got all in with AQ on a Qxx flop and he turned an ace. then it was a fight for survival. i found KQ and with one limper in front (who had limped far too frequently) i pushed. he instacalled with AQs. That's that.
I'm taking a break. I feel like I'm being strung along.

Re: Figured I would start the Nightly REBUY thread early today......

I had my first and last experience with rebuy tournaments yesterday. Played two, and rebought 3 times in one and 1 time in the other.

I simply don't like them. The whole idea why I like tournament-style poker is that when I put a mofo out, he is OUT. Or she! True enough, if I get donked out, or simply outplayed, I can rebuy, and I did. But it was not a right move for me. Rebuy Tilt is all it was.

That buy-in together with those rebuys equals a buy-in to a better-paying freezeout.

I learned my lesson.

Re: Figured I would start the Nightly REBUY thread early today......

I like rebuys because they let me build a big stack to survive beats and any stupid crap I might pull, as well as survive into the ante rounds, where I can gleefully steal pots much more frequently.
Throwing a bunch of money at the table in the first hour to try to build a big stack is my way of reducing variance. Would that I were better at playing a super-aggressive game and building a big stack early in a normal freezeout.
