Help me buy a video camera

I want to buy a video camera, but I have no clue. Here is some background info:

1. I intend to use it several times a year for family visits/trips.

2. No one will likely see these videos but family and friends so high quality images are not that important.

3. I do want to take the camera on trips so size, weight and convinience are very high priorities. I doubt I would use a camera that was remotely difficult to carry around.

4. I have very little patience to edit video so I want something that records in such a way that I don't have to do very much to get the video into a watchable format.

5. Price is not a major stumbling block, but I'm only going to use this thing occasionally so I don't want to spend top of the line money.

Thanks in advance OOT.

Edited becase I suck at posting images.

if i were to buy a camcorder it would be a jvc everio (large drive version). they're about a grand. i think it's retarded to record to arbitrary tape types when they're effectively useless for me. i never watch anything on these tapes, it's either going to be on a pc movie or a dvd i've made. tapes are just middle-men for the data that i have to buy and deal with them wearing out.

So it records directly onto a DVD or a disk that you USB to the PC right? I thought that was what all camcorders do now.

it records to an internal hard drive in the camcorder itself. the rest of the market records to some form of removable media.
