Heads Up Strategy Question

In an attempt to expand my horizons I've started to play some heads up and have a strategy question...

Lately, I've been watching "beebopaloobop" (UB)/"Dreamclown" (Pokerroom) play a lot as he's a very good heads up player.

From the BB he NEVER reraises. Obviously, this disguises his hands well and he's checkraising a ton of flops.

Any thoughts on this as being optimal or sub-optimal? Is the rationale just deception and figuring the deception postflop will garner you more bets?

Thanks for any thoughts,

Re: Heads Up Strategy Question

Do you mean he never raises when it is open-completed or also that he never 3-bets an open-raise or both?

Well, he's playing 200/400-500/1000 so I haven't seen any opponents open complete at that level. I just meant he never 3-bets an open-raise.

Re: Heads Up Strategy Question

yeah just for kicks, I datamined most of the session between him/them (whoever they/he is) and neverwin. I noticed that right off, the guy just never 3bets his bb. Neverwin played close to how I do preflop compared to dreamclown.

I havent really looked at that session, so I dont remember if he'd call and float postflop or not, but yeah, never 3bets the bb.

Re: Heads Up Strategy Question

yeah just looked in PT. I can only see the hands that were shown at showdown, but u filter for BB, any raise. And it pulls up nothing as far as the hands that made it to showdown.

Just to make it clear, we are talking every BB hand here, AK, any ace, KK, QQ...EVERYTHING. He just calls. thats so crazy.

Id be intrested on the effect this strategy would have HU against another good player.

Here are a few intresting hands:

Not to side track this too much but where are you playing head's up poker and at what stakes? I'd like to play some at the 10-20 to 15-30 level. At party/stars you are lucky to get a few hands in before someone else joins the table.

I haven't played the games (and so there's a small chance they have the button in the wrong place), but Pokerroom (and skins like Euro) usuallly have a number of HU tables going at those levels.

I think it's a very viable idea, but against some players that would often go 4-6 pf with junk...you're probably missing out a bit.
