Watching rather than playing..

I'm not sure if this is in the right forum, but my question comes as a result of a MTT.

Do you think it is beneficial to watch a MTT and try to read people, watch betting patterns...etc?

I do this on FullTilt to try to learn NL Hold Em alot better. I am new to the game and want to do very well. I play 6max Shorthanded Limit, but sometimes I don't think that game is for me.

What are your thoughts on watching rather than playing to try to pick up the game?

As a sidenote - I play on Pokerstars and Fulltilt in as many freerolls as I can, and also the 1$ MSNG, and 1$ tourneys since the risk is low and reward is huge.

Any thoughts on that also?

i think it is a great idea.
with your small bankroll, probably the best thing you can do.

Watching has a lot of limitations but can also be very educational.

In addition to what you're doing now, I would keep an eye open for sweat threads in this forum, no matter who you are you only get to a FT so often, and you have to make sure you're prepared when you get there, sweats are good for helping toward that goal.

Also, I would suggest checking out the Quad Shootout replays on stars for a chance to see all the cards flipped up.

I understand that playing is probably the best experience.

Could you direct me or explain to me this Quad shootout?

And what is a "sweat?"

Re: Watching rather than playing..

Sweat is basically watching a player play and rooting them on in their journey of winning a MTT.
