You should take a shot up limits

Seriously.

I took a shot up recently and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I got my ass kicked and realized how much I still had to learn. It allowed me to break out of where I was comfortable and hopefully become a better player.

If you apsire to move up limits, then you cannot play within your comfort zone. Playing withing your comfort zone only allows your skill level to improve slowly. Taking shots up will enable you to see new areas of improvment. You may fail, but it will only make you a better player in the long run.

Make sure you are adequately bankrolled. If you are not sure whether you should be a winning player by watching your play and opponents' play alone, allow yourself 300 big bets at the new limit. I've made the mistake of taking shots at higher limits against bad players and losing money to variance? or bad poker playing?, I just can't be sure because I didn't have the stake to play there long enough.

This might not even be a shot if you can beat 1/2 online.

At that point, I've heard that table selection is just as important as actual skill at the table.

was thinking the same thing

skillwise you can beat it, i think the problem comes in the higher variance thats tough to handle

Yeah, in all seriousness, I think "shot-taking" mode should be 300BB, and actual moving up limits is 400-500BB. This has been discussed before and it really comes down to a matter of personal comfort.

As far as live play goes, people usually play higher than they do online.

heh really? how is it a 'shot' if your rolled?

i use about 200-250BB moving up, and 100BB for shots. thats gonna hurt me some day =P

Yeah, I consider "rolled" to be 400-500BB.
