I think some players move up in stakes by "taking shots" at the next higher level when you've got some space in your bankroll. It's then easier to move back down if it doesn't go well. I think it'd be a lot tougher if you were making a concerted effort to stay at a higher level and felt like you had to stay there.

btw - Surf - since you are the master at spotting tells, I figured there has to be a huge Tuchman tell related to his chip shuffle - maybe the speed of the shuffle or something. did you spot any??

I wasn't watching closely enough, had most of my two monitors playing Stars SnGos so I mostly just caught the commentary and followed the thread closely.

Dave,

To answer your question regarding moving up stakes, it is normal to feel apprehensive. Once we move outside our “comfort zone”, our anxiety immediately increases. This is true of all social beings, anthropologically speaking. In other words, it is the old homeostasis thing.

Each individual is unique with regards to the degree of anxiety they will feel—this is based on previous life experiences (think in terms of separation anxiety for children). How far you deviate from your homeostasis and the external environmental factors all contribute to the level of anxiety and whether you are pushed towards or away from that equilibrium.

If you move away with a healthy support and safety net, the anxiety will be less and you have an increased chance to mediate the anxiety. If the risk is perceived as threatening, the anxiety is significantly increased and other psychological factors are introduced.
