Where to play?

Going to Las vegas july 7-10 staying at the nugget. I need advice on where to play cards. I am planning on playing several tourneys $20 to $200 entry. Also would like to play as much 1-2 no limit as humanly possible. Please advise. Just for reference last time in vegas was 2 yrs ago just after I started playing poker. I played bellagio 4-8 limit games at that time.

Unfortunately the LV coverage on our wiki isn't very good yet. If some enterprising 2+2ers want to bring it up to date, see http://poker.wikicities.com/wiki/Cas...egas.2C_Nevada

I think the Nugget itself has an excellent cardroom. Its small but well run and has good dealers. If you play for a while they will comp you for the Nugget buffet which is very good.

Binions dealers have not impressed me at all. The few times I have played there they have been making constant errors. Misreading hands, misdealing, trying to pay the wrong person.

The Plaza only seems to have 3 or so games going at any time. Nugget, Binions and plaza all run good $50-200 tourneys.

Those are all within walking distance from where you will be. On the strip the MGM cardroom is new, seems well run, and has some good games. Same with the Wynn. The Luxor seems like the worst place to play in town as far as I'm concerned. They rake for a bad-beat jackpot that is just a flat $1000. Their rake is high anyway (1-2 NL is 10% capped at $5) and their tournament sucks.

MGM has a daily 11:00 tourney that looks pretty well set up but I haven't had a chance to play it yet.

and Luxor's 1/2 NL is 1/1/2 NL unless short-handed and it becomes 1/2 NL, $50 max, tip the dealer a buck and ask for $50 more after one hand.

Your 3 downtown 1/2 NL games are all probably fine, but NO MAX buy-in so watch out for The DUKE and others with big wads of cash to splash, in those games I buy in for $300 and am usually a big stack at a table starting with that much, it's downtown...

Tourney wise, hit the Sahara NOON and 7pm tourneys, $40 with $20 rebuy if you can, they are 20 min rounds, and if you win (I did once) it went 7.5 hours, Plaza one took 5 hours (once too).

My favorite place to play downtown IS the Golden Nugget. The Plaza and Horseshoe are dumps. And as previously stated, the dealers at Binions suck, and are scary looking. I'll be in town during those dates and will be playing primarily at Alladin and MGM.
As for tournaments, I'll be playing the $225 freezeouts at the Rio and the Palms 7pm $200. I may also try the Ultimate Poker Challenge $500 tourneys at the Plaza Fri(7/8) and Sat (7/9). Maybe I'll meet you at a table.

Re: Where to play?

I agree on Binion's, BUT: The caliber of the play there is also Omega-3 rich!

I just hate the must move they do on 1/2 NL, once I have a feel for my table, I usually do not want to be wisked away to another and be forced often to play shorthanded, and if by some chance I play long enough to get to the main table, it will be 75%+ big stacks and far less Omega-3 rich! The Plaza has improved some, but like Binion's, it's definitely not high end dealers, but that's not all bad, fewer sharks tolerate lessor quality dealer ponds, and that's fine with me.

Luxor on the other hand, no hope (of seeing me again) unless they go to 1/2 NL, $100 or $200 max, and actually break down tables when they go shorthanded, I'd rather play 2/4 at El Cortez then at the Luxor .
