Cash game action during a tourney--a thought

Most people say that the side games during a tournament are the best. However, I dont understand how this can be true. When there is a tourney going on, wont the cash games attract better players as a result? I would assume that this is even truer for tourneys with big buy ins.

What is everyones thought about this?

Also, my last two sessions at Commerce were during the day and I found the action much better than at night. Is this always the case or was that just an exception?

Tourneys tend to attract wannabe pros and recreational players who don't play any other time. And the good players on average last longer in the tournaments, meaning the side games at the same site will be softer as a result until the good players start busting out.
