Rules question Omaha8 tournament

Potlimit Omaha8 tournament. 4 players remaining.

40-80 blinds, UTG raise to 220, next player goes alllin for 280. Button calls and now the question. Big blind want to raise, is he allowed to?

Well, I was the player in the big blind and when I announced I wanted to raise it a potbet two of the players objected. I just wanted to make sure I had got it right for the future. Anyway, it ended up with me being allowed to raise since I couldn't accept anything else. Didn't win the pot though, oh well.

you are allowsed to raise, however at that stage in the tourney it may be better for both of you to check it down to try to knock out the all in player and secure 3rd place. That may be why the others gave you a hard time

I don't see how they are wrong. Betting into a dry sidepot with what could be only slightly positive, even or negative equity is only helping the all-in guy, who gets to play to quadruple up against a single player.

No hand is strong enough to raise in that situation, simply from an ICM standpoint. The only exception I can think of is when you are so far ahead in chips that knocking out the 4th player might loosen up the other 2, so keeping him around is in your best interest for winning 1st.
