NY to Borgata to DC questions

Time to ask for some help please. At the end of this month I'll be travelling from New York to DC, and plan an overnight stop at the Borg (wooot woot) "along the way". Any advice on the cheapest way to do this by public transport (bus, I guess?) Last year Jeffage gave me some excellent advice on cheap bus tickets to AC from DC (thanks again), but I'm not sure how to do this in reverse. Companies, special deals, etc?

Any poker room rate advice would be appreciated to. I have a players card and it will be a week night; can I get a rate, how many hours will I have to play and how do I do it.who do I talk to? I know this has been discussed 1 trillion times but it always seems changeable and complicated and I'm a bit thick, so a patient explanation would be much appreicated. I definitely want to stay at teh Borg, so don;t need anything in the way of other cheap room advice.

Thanks guys,

NG.

You need to understand that you're going out of the way if you're stopping in AC. The route from NYC to DC goes straight down the NJ Turnpike, while AC involves traveling down the Garden State. Greyhound and Academy offer frequent service from the Port Authority. However, their roundtrip tickets require a return in 4 days, so I'm not sure that would work for you. The tickets cost around $27, and you get back between $12-17 from the casino.

If you have a Borgata card, call reservations and ask for a poker rate. If you have play at the Taj, you can call the poker room and ask for a poker rate. Weekdays are pretty easy.

That sounds pretty cheap - couldn't I just throw away the return ticket? That's what I did on a similar deal from DC to AC last time. It's more AC to DC I'm worried about - that's probably going to work out expensive.
I know it's not really on the way.
Thanks for the info.

There are lots of daily Casino package bus trips - full of granny slot players. The cost is cheap (I don't know exactly but probably about $20 because the cost is underwritten by the casino) and they usually throw in a roll or two of quarters and a lunch coupon.

Actually I just looked on the Greyhound website and its only $30 from AC to DC. I'm sure undiscounted tickets were a lot more expensive last time I went. So it looks good.

Thanks. ANy info on how to get these deals? I remember it being kind of complicated to do from DC (you had to be very specific about which fare you wanted, citing a specific Casino name, and you couldn;t get it more than 48 hours prior to departure or something). Is it easier from New York?

Nicky,

If it's 30 to take the bus from AC-DC, I HIGHLY recommend taking Amtrak for 20 bucks more (50 total). It's much more comfortable and MUCH more convenient (leaves frequently, gets you to Union Station which is better). Go to www.njtransit.com for local train times from AC-Philadelphia (leaves every hour or so). Trains from Philadelphia 30th Street Station-DC leave every half hour or so (unreserved trains are cheapest). Let me know if you have other questions.

Re: NY to Borgata to DC questions

Best way to do it is to Get the Greyhound bus fare from NY to AC like was previously posted. This will drop you off at just about any casino but the Borg. once you get your $15 back from whatever casino they drop you off at just go out onto pacific ave and wait for the #2 Jitney bus which goes to the borg. When leaving AC just go to the AC bus terminal which is one block behind Ballys on Michigan Ave. and get a one-way ticket to DC. Not sure how much they are but i do know a 1 way ticket from AC to NYC is $28. so I don't thnk it will cost you much more than that to get to DC from AC.

Re: NY to Borgata to DC questions

I may well do that actually, especially as the dollar makes things pretty cheap at the moment for us. Thanks for reminding me.
Best,
NG

Re: NY to Borgata to DC questions

So I just buy a standard ticket and get off at any casino they stop at? I don't have to ask for a specific deal or coupons or anything when I buy the ticket?
Ta,
NG.
