Hand Ranking Basic Question

This is a basic question:

In O/8, if you hold 2,8,x,x and your opponent holds 3,7,x,x and the board is, for example, A,4,5,K,J, who has the low hand?

Is it the lower card (2) with an 8 kicker? Or, is it the highest card and then the lowest card i.e. 7,3 beats 8,2 since the 7 is lower?

Thank you.

This is correct. Your opponent has a 7 low, beating your 8 low.

Your opponet wins low with A/3/4/5/7.You have A/2/4/5/8.In other words you have an 8 low to his 7low.

The trick is to read the low hands from top down, counting ace as one.

Reading the hands in that fashion, you have 85421 and your opponent has 75431.

Which is the lower number, 85421 or 75431? (That is the lower hand).
