THE TOURNEY IS READY

Round 1 begins now. The bracket is available here

PM your opponent. Exchange AIMs so you can communicate better while trying to find a table. Figure out a time that works for both of you and where you're going to play.
IT DOESN'T MATTER WHERE YOU PLAY AS LONG AS YOU BOTH AGREE.
Suggestions:
Go to UltimateBet. They have playmoney heads up tables. Obviously look for off-peak hours. If there's a 10/20 game with two people, explain to them you have a bet on your match and ask if they'd mind leaving so you can play.

IT IS UP TO YOU TO CONFIRM CHIP COUNTS WHENEVER PLAY IS INTERRUPTED. Have your opponent PM you the tally and you PM him and you'll each have proof of where you stand.

Keep playing until somebody's lost 300BBs and post the results.

Once you find a table and are playing please feel free to announce that your match has started. If enough people are watching, they can even crowd the table so nobody can sit down, intermittently posting their blinds and folding to one person raising and then another and then sitting out.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I hate the way you have handlded this. IMO you should have decided one one sole site and made sure everyone played there with exactly the same rules.

Are we paying you to organise this?

Ok, my post was too harsh. I will not edit it because then someone will say 'why did you edit it!?'. I just don't want a format that will lead to a lot of confusion.

Why not just say everyone must play at these UB playmoney HU tables?

Fine, we'll have one format (as I fixed in my original post). But don't blame me when it's impossible to finish these matches in a reasonable time.

And no, nobody's paying me for this.

Re: THE TOURNEY IS READY

Before you guys start playing, we should do an NCAA type pool - $100 to get in (or $500 or whatever) and we pick all of the matches, 1st rd 1 point, 2nd 2, 3rd 4 or whatever and the winning prognosticator gets it all. I didn't look at the site, but if it's called bracket master, it must have this built in - who wants to book this?

I doubt this would be an issue, but if the site finds out, I'm sure they'd get pissed since this circumvents the rake.

It does have it built in, one of the reasons I made the bracket on that site... I suggested this possibility in the other thread. Just click the Predict It! tab at the top of the page.

Don't direct the tourney by my opinions, I am just a lone voice. See what the others think.

I always thought the $50/person tag that was getting thrown around was way too much. Seeing as you're doing this for free, I can't have (and will not have) any complaints about your decisions. Thanks for doing this.

i think this is a great idea, ncaa pool type bet would be great, im definitely in for $100 one if we do it (could have two pools, one for 100 one for 500?)

it looks to me like cryptologic has a decent number of low limit heads up NL tables so this might be a possibility. the ub play money tables always seem full whenever i have checked.

is there still an additional reload for the final four?

They would have to be rake free b/c it's disgusting what the rake does.

is the concern the actual $ cost of the match or the amount of play it takes out of the match? what do you think it would end up costing playing .25-.50?

Re: THE TOURNEY IS READY

hes not worried about the cost, hes worried about them taking chips off the table and screwing up the tourney

maybe $10 tops, but that is 20bbs, which is significant.

if this is the only problem we could just have the match use 320bb instead of 300 right?

Well really the rake depends on how long the match takes which is impossible to predict. I think the UB play money tables will be satisfactory. What do other people think? Should other structures be allowed?

Prevaricator 12-09-2005 04:52 PM

Re: THE TOURNEY IS READY

instead of deep stacked which is hard to set up, why not do best 2 out of 3 with 100bb stacks. Its much easier to set up and it still eliminates some of the variance.

whitelime 12-09-2005 04:54 PM

Re: THE TOURNEY IS READY

Not that it would be a big deal, but rake could affect different styles differently to the point where it would give a certain style a minute advantage.

It's just so much easier keeping track and what not when there is no rake.

whitelime 12-09-2005 04:55 PM

Re: THE TOURNEY IS READY

I definitely think this is a better structure.

ya, good call. i dont want to debate what we do... whatever the ppl who set this up wanna do is cool, but this is clearly gonna make things way simpler.
i say we do this and avoid headaches.

i didnt mean to start a debate about the structure at this point. i took another look at the ub play money tables and there were a few open this time. i just didnt want to end up spending a ridiculous amount of time trying to get on a table. is there any easy way to get more play money chips? does anyone have a ton of these to transfer?

Re: THE TOURNEY IS READY

would it be too much to ask for for these ppl to post that they are going to be playing and where like 1/2hr-hr ahead of time?

Here's a better way to do it. No rebuy until you go bust w/100 BBs. The winner of those 100BBs then keeps the 200BBs and the other guy buys in for another 100, and they play until somebody has all of the BBs. That way the loser of his stack can climb up to 150BBs, double up, and win.
I think this would allow for deepstack play if the guy makes a comeback while being no more difficult to set up than 2/3.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, that's what happens when I'm posting half an hour before my thesis is due.
Here's what I think should happen: people have one rebuy of 100 extra BBs which they use after they go bust. The person who has 200BBs plays with those 200BBs on the table. If he loses them all, he now gets to buy in for another 100BBs. So the match ends when one of two things happens:
1) The first guy to lose 100BBs rebuys and ends up with no chips after the rebuy
2) The guy who won the first 100BBs loses those 200BBs rebuys and then runs after chips again.

FoxwoodsFiend 12-09-2005 06:10 PM

So Zeebo apparently never wanted to play

Don't know what the source of the miscommunication is, but Zeebo is out. I am getting a replacement. In the meanwhile, go about your matches on UB HU play money tables with the one rebuy after losing 100BBs. We will wait for Strasser to finish his match against his to-be-determined opponent (almost definitely PickyTooth but possibly jcmoussa and evansky, in that order based on persistence in trying to get in over the last couple weeks, if PickyTooth doesn't respond relatively soon)

I don't know what to tell you. I try making it easier to access tables by allowing different structures and people complain that it's not consistent but any consistency means limited opportunity to access tables. Earlier today there were plenty of open tables so I'd advise looking to early afternoon/other offpeak hours.

If you simply cannot find a place, I guess I'm fine with you playing wherever you and your oponnent agree to.

Not complaining. Just letting you know.

Re: THE TOURNEY IS READY

I find it hard to believe that a group of players that play at the stakes you guys do can't get UB or some other site to help you guys set this up. If they take a look on the amount of rake you guys create over a year, I would think they would go a far way to please you. At least you would guess some site would be interested in some nice PR among a group of such high volume players.

Just a thought.

I've got a better idea. FoxwoodsFiend contacted us at PokerStars and asked if we could work something out. I asked our tourney guru Henry Estes if he could help. He put together a special tournament for you folks so you can have your heads-up matches exactly as spec'd.

I'm sure that FoxwoodsFiend will have the details for you, but believe me, the place to play these matches (and all your poker) is at PokerStars.
