Jd 4d preflop

Just curious, Jd 4d preflop. Noone at table folds on anything. Under normal circumstances would you have suggested a fold or hang in to see the flop? Just curious.

Fold unless you get to call for 1/2 bet in the SB after a few limpers.

Re: Jd 4d preflop

How many players? What's your position? How many callers are already in the pot? Has the pot been raised? Post-flop, how likely are you to be paid off if you hit a big hand (three diamonds, a pair of fours, or two jacks + a four on the flop). How aggressive and/or tricky is the table? Unless the answer to all these questions is favorable, you should fold this pre-flop.

i like to play a J-4s. you can make a straight on the low end, or on the high end...plus you could get a flush, 2 pair, or trips.

But it only makes one flush, so it should be played more conservatively than J4o.

definately. if you make a straight flush with J4o it will be more disguised if there are four diamonds on the board. then when someone flips over the ace you can flip over your four and say "straight flush bitch! ship it!"

I raise it.

J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 4 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] is a good heads up hand.

It also dominates such hands as J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], or 8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 4 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].

Hope that helps.

I'm a little bit suprised this is a disucssion point. Surely any two hi/lo suited combo (Ks 2s, Qh 3h etc etc) is worth a call if the value is good in late position and nobody has opened the pot yet...no more to it? And that's only a cash game if you ask me!!!

come on guys - it makes 2 straights, 1 flush, 2 sets of quads, 6 sets of trips, countless two pair hands - you raise this [censored] up! +++++++EV

And there's always the possibility of winning a kicker war with trips, quads, or two pair on the board. That's like 20% extra value right there.

When I read the title of this thread, I thought to myself "this is going to be brilliant".

It was.

One thing no one has mentioned is that quite often either of the straights you make with this hand include an A -- and you get so much action from the LAGtards with an A on board that this hand's straight value alone is a virtual currency printing press.

Re: Jd 4d preflop

What about cold calling raises? I think that there is real potential here as well. I mean, come on, I've seen people raise with stuff like:

AA
KK
QQ
JJ
TT
99
88
77
66
AKs
AKo
AQs
AQo
ATs
ATo
KQs
KQ

. . . to name just a few. If the flop comes with a Jack in it you are crushing all but the first four hands in the list, as well as other crappy stuff like 87s that those so-called LAG's are always raising with. Think how many times you are going to stack those over aggressive fools.
