Why did the Paul Phillips WSOP TOC Thread get deleted?

I've been out all day but would have been interested in Paul's thoughts and assume others are too. If the deleted thread did in fact cover the free, previously undisclosed entries given to Chan, Hellmuth, and Brunsun into the 2005 WSOP TOC event then I'm curious as to how Paul and other posters "crossed the line".

The post on this subject in Paul's blog certainly seems reasonable.

There was no crossing the line, just a person delivering his opinion on a WSOP tournament, Binions and ESPN. In fact it was just another well thought out PP post. I don't think it was removed because of his original post, rather some of the harsh replies that unsued.

I'm really upset about the moderators' choices and I don't know why .. it's just an internet forum. I can't state in words how mad I am (for some obvious reasons more then others). Rules are fine but when did it become not OK to talk about how you feel (your opinion) in an engaging manner?

Paul's transgression appears to have been his criticism of the moderation practices on this board in the now-deleted thread.

The fact that Mat Sklansky deleted the whole post (Paul made it clear that his first deleted post would be his last) is a pretty quick validation of Paul's original point and really makes me think twice about posting on this frequentyl-miserable website ever again.

Congrats, Mat Sklansky, on finding a Final Solution to the Phillips problem.

FWIW mat says here that he shouldn't have done it:

Ya, I read that.

The part where MS says:

[ QUOTE ]
I should not have deleted the whole thread, just the original post and some of the replies.

[/ QUOTE ]

indicates that the reason he deemed the post delete-able was the content of the original post, which was innocuous except for a criticism of the board's moderators.

I remember the post and Paul did not "contribute to the harsh enviroment here." Perhaps Mat doesn't realize that his deletion of the thread, and chasing Paul away in the process, was one of the harhest things he could have done to the environment here.

If that's the case, can't they just delete the "harsh replies", assuming these replies went over some sort of line I don't (at this time) completely understand.

I tend to be well-mannered (thank's Mom) and not too controversial in my posting so I haven't run into situations where my posts or threads I'm involved in are deleted. But the forum has gotten so large that other than OOT porn and the old Abdul Jalib stuff I have little idea what is getting people and/or threads barred and/or deleted.

Maybe Paul will post a bit on this in his blog.

Anyone else not buying Mat's rather lame rejoinder? Paul has put up with 10x as much as abuse as he's put out and contributes some of the very best analysis in this forum, yet his thread is deleted doubtless resulting in his depature? Seriously -EV for this board and a pathetic error in judgement, enough with the moderator power tripping already.

Not sure you if you read Phillip's blog, but evoking a Hitler/Nazi reference to seal your argument just might please him a great deal.

It is a sad loss - Paul can be one of the most eloquent and thought out posters around.
