Hold Em Excellence
 

Has anyone read this book? How does it compare to the other books?

Can anyone recommend this book? Thanks a lot.

Or would you recommend "Internet Texas Hold Em"

I am not new to Hold Em and i have read many books so please tell me if any of these are geared towards a beginner.

Lou Krieger's books suck, unless you're a beginner in which case they're average.

Hold'em Excellence is very geared to beginners.

I read this book when I first started out and it wasn't bad at introducing you to some concepts but I just didn't feel I got enough out of it.

Lou basically discusses things to consider and think about in different situations but he doesn't hammer in on the concepts with enough hand examples - which is what really drives home the point.

He only dedicates 7 pages to the turn and 9 on the river - that should give you an idea of how thorough this book is.

Also, I found that he doesn't spend enough time on some important concepts such as pot odds - he discusses it and only briefly explains it but there weren't any examples on applying it.

He covers a lot of other topics such as money management, why raise, the role of computers and technology in poker, etc...

I must say, however, I did enjoy his article on how to play AK.

This is absolutely the only reason to ever read this book is for this single chapter. More Hold Em Excellence is even worse, theres not one good chapter in that book.

Yes. I agree. More Hold'em Excellence is an absolute waste of money.

It is essentially a rehash of Krieger's old articles.

I read it early on and found it helpful. However, that said it is one of the books that I would not reread (except for the AK chapter and also his breakdown of 87 vs. AK is interesting).

However I found the book disjointed and to many "it depends" answers (which is true, but he does not explain what "it depends" on).

I would say for a beginner it is not a complete waste of time and probably is worth a read.

Hold'Em Excellence is pretty useless.

ITH is good -- you're much better off spending your money on that instead. If you're an absolute beginner, the Lee Jones book is okay, too. Just make sure you move past the somewhat weak-tight advice soon (ITH and SSH will help with that). If you have some experience, you're better off with ITH->SSH progression.

This book is bad. Very, very bad.

ITH is quite good. I rate it as better than WLLH. It's about as good an intro text, and doesn't cause (as many) bad habits.
