Skiing East Coast...

Skiing around Maryland sucks. Lots of let's make snow its cold by the hills, Billy.

Over winter break, I'd like to find somewhere worth going. I'm not an expert skiier by any means but have been to Stratton in Vermont.

I've never been, but I really enjoyed a trip I took to Mt. St. Anne's. It was back when the exchange rate was great so it was dirt cheap, too.

the only place better than Stowe is Jay Peak. more snow, better terrain, not nearly as nice a town/nightlife.

IF - and that is a big if - it's been a huge snow winter, Smugglers Notch is also arguably better than Stowe. some sick terrain there.

I live in MD and used to take ski trips with my HS up to Seven Springs in PA. It's not what hardcore skiiers would consider an awesome mountain, but it kicks the [censored] out of Roundtop and Whitetail. On top of that, it's pretty affordable and it's only a 4 hour drive.

stratton is decent, okemo is similar but not as outrageously expensive, magic is cool if you like bumps and general old school-ness, while i've never been to stowe/jay/smuggs, they seem to be very highly regarded, tremblant rules in general, though it gets really [censored] cold up there, mt snow blows.

edit: i've also heard good things about whiteface in NY, but that was all from racers who are used to cold and ice, so i'd take it with a grain of salt.
