Not a swing, but a plateau

I know the topic of swings has been discussed at length, but I have a question that is not posed quite as often.

Rather than looking at a "swing," that is, a high point compared to a low point, I want to ask about "plateaus," or breaking even after x hands.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what a typical plateau looks like? Personally, my situation is that I believe I am theoretically beating my game soundly but I am about even after 6000-8000 hands. Anyone care to comment?

Yeah, you'll have worse. Get used to it.

I've had a 30k hand strech wher i was basically break even. Never got more than -200 bbs, and never more than +150bbs. They happen.

Yep, I just went through a "plateau" as well. Mind you, there was a couple +/- 100BB runs in there, but over 50k hands, a graph definitely gives the impression of a plateau. Finally snapped out of it recently, and I'm back on an upward trend.

So yeah, I think it happens.

Perfect.

I broke even for about 55K hands. I don't hold the record.

to the more experienced players that responded here, how much of your plateaus do you attribute to play rather than variance?

I'm going through a horrible one too right now, about 30K hands so far. It REALLY sucks. Here's a graph of the last 50K or so:

This is the longest breakeven stretch I've ever had so far. Just gotta play through I guess.

Do you have trouble with the concept of breakeven?

During this month I have (and still am in) close to a 40k hand break-even stretch. I feel like I'm playing better than I've ever played before.
