Poker apparel outside of poker events ie in public places

What are the effects of it? What are the consequences of it? What are your experiences?

No way, not if I wear this t-shirt. Then it's raining vag, esp. if I wear my cool wrap around sunglasses. I'll literally be "all-in."

I have a half-dozen Stars shirts and wear them all the time (I'm even wearing one right now). I choose laziness (doing laundry, or rather not doing laundry) over fashion/style. I actually had a woman come up to me in the grocery store once and start talking to me about playing poker, which was kinda cool/random (woulda been cooler if she was hot) but other than that, nothing...I continue working towards my goal of having a poker shirt for every day of the month and only doing laundry 12 times a year.

In general, wearing T-shirts announcing your hobbies is perceived as dorky. The only acceptable form of this that I can think of is sports attire.

Re: Poker apparel outside of poker events ie in public places

Don't forget music fandom. Those t-shirts are okay.

Wearing clothing that tells people who do a particular thing may limit the number of new contacts you make, but it also attracts people with similar interests. I think it's a wash, really. Most people who give you short shift because you wear a PokerStars t-shirt or something probably would give you the brushoff once they realize you're a poker enthusiast anyway.

Of course, this assumes you're talking about wearing it in a socially acceptable venue. Wearing your Texas Hold 'Em lounging pants to a company party is going to cause you problems for reasons completely unrelated to poker.

And yes, I have Texas Hold 'Em lounging pants. But I only wear them IN the house.

don\'t know about wearing apparel, but...

whenever I start talking about poker in public, seems like someone around me has just started playing poker. Teppan grill chef, cleaning crew at work, random people in crowds, everywhere. Anyone else experience this phenomenon? I can only imagine the reaction if I wore a poker shirt or hat. I do think it's cool that the local casinos have ads showing pocket aces instead of blackjack.

I think it's inevitable that you'll have people talk to you about poker. But A. they probably aren't as into it as us and B. people that play poker seriously are not always cool.

I wear Pokerstars T-shirts in public places such as the grocery store, bank, convenience store, or shopping mall. Heck, I might even wear it to a rock concert or a friend's party (maybe not if there's some special girl I'm trying to impress). More often than not, I just don't care if other people find it 'objectionable' or indicative of a 'socially defective scumbag.' I make my own appraisals of myself and I'm responsible for what I think; not what others might think. All this being said, my employer doesn't let me wear clothing with logo's on it because it violates the company dress code. All my co-workers know I play poker so the issue is just following protocol. That being said, I wouldn't wear clothing with poker emblems at church, weddings, dates, funerals, special banquets-you get the drift. However, I would generally wear them without concern unless it's specifically prohibited or a special event.

A buddy of mine wore a poker shirt to one of my home games. We mocked him mercilessly, screaming each time he bet, "You'd better fold! Didn't you see his T-SHIRT?!"

WSOP bracelet? F'n money. WSOP t-shirt bought at Target? Pure turd.

Now this is a shirt you can't go wrong with!

Now that was some super-funk-a-delic 'who what my hey' down on the corner of Lyndale action. Certainly no Dolche and Gabana imposter! Pure liquified Prada G-DOG action. But where's the French cufflings?

BTW, nice pic!

A middle aged man was wearing a pokerroom hat on the subway.

The effect? I laughed. Probably out loud a little.

When I wear my Alienware t-shirt (highend gaming computer company) someone ALWAYS says something to me. I wear my Poker Room t-shirt.....nothing. My Cake t-shirt gets more comments than any of my poker related stuff.

Someone in my investment banking analyst class wore a poker stars shirt to work like every other day, and a poker stars jacket.

This is the truth

When they ask what I do, I respond "I'm self employed and work mainly online in financial risk/money management." Never ever had a follow-up question unless one of my douchenozzle acquaintences laughs when I say this. By time the target knows the truth, she's already in too deep.

Yeah, I wear my nicer clothes to more formal events...like my ripped-off sleeves jean jacket and Napalm Death t-shirts. Plus anything that my mom made using the Bedazzler.

Nothing says cool more than "Joe Cool" on the back of a sleeveless jean jacket in Bedazzler beads. I usually only wear that one on dates, though. It competes with my similar Tales From the Crypt jean jacket. The Crypt Keeper is so rad and most ladies already know this.

Considering that Small Stakes Hold 'Em has been on my desk for the last couple of weeks for reading at lunch and the like, I don't think a Party Poker t-shirt would make much difference Other than the fact that t-shirts are against the dress code. Better make it a polo

I wear my poker attire for one reason only, referrals. I keep a few professional looking business cards with my Pokerstars info on it at all times. If someone asks about playing online poker I hand them my card and tell them about the free money they can get for just signing up. You'd be suprised the amount of referral fees I've gotten from Pokerstars at $50 a pop.

Re: Poker apparel outside of poker events ie in public places

I tend to wear my poker clothes like I would any other clothes. I have a casual job (part time in a privert owned record store) so for some reason wearing poker gear goes well with the punters. They think, 'Cool, a geeza into that, must be a swimin' place'. My boss thinks its cool, and, on one occasion, I got invited to a home game... by a girl. We're pretty close now, so it looks like heads up soon... :P

It has to be a somewhat unique shirt...otherwise ur a dork...and whats gonna happen to you is stated in one of the above posts. Where the buddy wore the shirt to the home game and he was ribbed the whole night

Re: Poker apparel outside of poker events ie in public places

I don't wear poker clothes. I'm probably too old to pull it off ( If it is indeed pulloffable ). Nah, not really, I don't give a rat's turd what anybody thinks.

I don't because I might get involved in even more poker conversations and watch eyes glazing over. When someone asks how you are playing winning poker and you start talking about pot size, etc. and they find out it doesn't involve magical fairy dust, their eyes begin to glaze over and I feel like I should be wearing an Ambien Tee if anything.

I'm referring to non-opponents. Somebody says something at the casino I laugh and say any 2 cards can win and I have been INCREDIBLY lucky. And i am not even from last week, I got killed. ( I've noticed other players dont' like to think you are making money, duh)
